a few days later, rick, faye and carl set off to scavenge more fuel for the cars. they were split into two vehicles, rick in one going to the further gas station and faye and carl in the other going to the closest one. they agreed to meet at the intersection when they were done.

they pulled up to the gas station, each going to a car and getting ready to scavenge the fuel. "Hi." a voice called out from behind them.

faye dropped the fuel can and held up her gun, searching for whoever spoke. "i'm okay.. i mean- im not. i've been shot at." he revealed. "someone threw a microwave at me. so.. i'm just gonna say something my mom used to say and hope for the best here."

"whatever you have of good, spend on the traveller." he stated, his voice shaking with fear. "my mom said that, that helping the traveller, the person without a home, that's everything."

faye slowly followed the sound, carl close behind her. "i'm sure you've both seen things, been through things, that you don't trust people. i get it! i don't, either."

he continued to ramble on about things his mother told him and how he hadn't eaten in a few days but only one thing he said touched faye. "my mercy prevails over my wrath." the sentence repeated over and over inside her head.

she ran up to him, aiming her gun at him. "HANDS UP!" she yelled.

the man was frail, it was like a strong gust of wind would knock him over. "listen, i'm gone. it's cool." he raised his hands up in surrender.

suddenly a few gunshots fired over his head causing the stranger to run away. faye furrowed her brows, looking for the source of sound.

"dad?" carl furrowed his brows, approaching the man who'd just shot.

"we were supposed to meet at the intersection." he looked at his son, noticing the annoyed expression. "i shot over his head. i just wanted him gone."

"he said that he was-" faye began to speak before being interrupted.

"i heard what he said. most of it." rick interrupted. "but he could've been one of them."

"like a spy?" faye sarcastically remarked raising her eyebrows in disbelief.

"i shot above his head. if he isn't one of them i hope he makes it." rick muttered making faye roll her eyes and follow carl as he stormed off.

"it won't be enough, dad." carl said as he walked away.

"enough what?" rick called out.

"hope." carl bluntly replied.

the next day, rick and the others set off to finish this war between the saviours for once and for all. faye gave her dad a hug goodbye and wished him good luck, watching how carl did the same to rick.

a few hours later, faye entered the grimes' house being greeted by a very worried looking michonne. "faye, i haven't seen carl all day. is he with you?" she furrowed her brows.

faye thought for a moment before realisation kicked in. she grabbed her gun and headed to the front door. "where are ya going?" michonne placed her hand on her hip, looking at him in confusion.

"to retrieve this dumbass." faye sighed swinging open the door.

she headed to the front gates, getting in a car and driving back to the gas station faye and carl met the stranger. she searched around, there was no sign of him. just as she was about to turn around, her back in the car and accept defeat that she was wrong.. the growls of walkers and the screech of a man came from the woods.
