Chapter 5.

Jade grabbed my hand and guided me away from the chair before I could decline. Students from other tables were also standing up, talking to their friends as they go their own way. I saw Blue and Red in the distance, waving at me. "Good luck," Blue mouthed before students crowded, making me lose sight of her.

"Where are we going?" I said as we left the large dining area of the castle, or should I say middle house. I should be used to these terms if I wanted to adapt here. Jade continued walking quickly, knowing exactly where she was going. I had to follow close behind for fear of getting lost. The castle was old and spacious, not somewhere I would want to be lost in.

"We're heading to the Knowledge house. That's where our room is located." She steered me to a corner where I detected the stairs. As I glanced up, I saw that it was steep, long, and circular. A fall from above would be ugly. "Come on Mars."

I followed her, setting foot on the first step. "How many floors does the middle house have?"

"Five," she mumbled. "Then there's the lookout tower, which I think reaches 7 floors. I've never been up there."

"Forbidden?" I asked, trailing my hands on the stone walls. It was cold and cracked at some parts, showing how old it was.

"Nah. Some couples use it as their make out point." She glanced backward to me, her eyes twinkling. "Just kidding. The people under the astronomy course use it to gaze at the stars. There's a powerful telescope out there."

"Sounds nice," I said. "What about you? What's your course?" We reached the landing of the third floor. Curiously, I leaned to the edge so I could look below. There was no railing. "Anyone had an accident here?"

She shook her head. "The probability of you dying because of the VR is higher compared to falling from here, and the former doesn't happen a lot." She exhaled slowly. "Except for the games of course."

"The games?" I asked, arching an eyebrow. I leaned away from the edge.

"Oh just an activity we like to do here," she dismissed with a wave of her hand. "Anyway, about your previous question about the courses, we don't have that in first year. If you're a freshman here, you only study the basics. It allows you to find out what you really want to do in life. It's not until sophomore that we get to choose our courses."

We continued walking to the next flight of stairs. "What courses do they offer?"

"There's archeology, biochemistry, marine biology, programming, screen writing, video game software, and list goes on," she answered.

My mouth opened. "Don't you have normal courses here? What if I want to be an ordinary citizen with a back office job?"

I saw the edges of her mouth pull upward. "But then you should have studied in another school Mars." She stopped walking and glanced over her shoulder. "We also have people here who want to star in their own circus. They are the performers, contortionists, magicians. The Lesbian Academy caters to anyone, as long as they are fit for this school."

"What about Red and Blue? What are their courses?"

She turned her head forward and started to walk again. "Blue is in Programming. She's able to create a lot of things and place it in the VR because of that. The headmaster has complete trust in her. Turning a concept into something tangible in the island is difficult. You have to understand codes." We reached the landing of the fourth floor. "Red is taking up Weapon Engineering. She also has a minor in software engineering."

"Impressive. . . What about the technical team they're talking about?"

"The technical team handles a lot of things." She sighed. "Look Mars, you won't be able to understand everything in one go. Why don't you settle for a few days and observe?" I considered her suggestion. That would probably be for the best. Plus, I was getting a headache with the information overload. "Hey, there's the bridge."
