Maya's eyes widened slightly in surprise. "Really? Since when?"
She looked back at the door that Megan and Andy had disappeared through, her mind processing the unexpected revelation.
———————————————————————————————————Carina nodded, a knowing smile on her face. "They've been spending a lot of time together lately. I think they finally acknowledged their feelings for each other."
Maya said "Andy is three years older than my sister."
Carina chuckled at Maya's observation. "Yeah, I know. But love doesn't always follow age conventions. If they're happy together, that's all that matters."
Maya's expression became contemplative, her thoughts swirling in her tired brain. "You're right, I guess. I just never expected that combo. My little sister and best friend. It's kind of weird."
Carina placed a comforting hand on Maya's shoulder, her touch grounding her. "It might be a bit unexpected, but it's not the weirdest pairing out there. People fall for each other in all sorts of ways. Besides, they seem happy together, right?"
Maya leaned against Carina, seeking comfort and warmth. Her exhaustion finally catching up to her, she closed her eyes and rested her head on Carina's shoulder.
Carina wrapped an arm around Maya, her touch gentle and soothing. "You're tired, Bambina. You should get some rest."
Maya hummed in agreement, her voice soft and weary. "Yeah, I am tired. But I don't want to move."
She snuggled closer to Carina, nestling her head against Carina's chest.
Carina smiled at Maya's display of affection, her heart swelling with love. "You don't have to move. You can just stay right here."
She ran her fingers through Maya's hair, enjoying the intimate moment.
Andy emerged from the hallway after settling Megan in her room, heading towards the kitchen. Feeling her stomach grumble with hunger, she decided to grab some food for herself and Megan.
Andy opened the fridge and rummaged through it, searching for something quick and easy to eat.
She found leftovers from a recent dinner, still looking edible. Humming softly to herself, Andy portioned out some food onto plates and heated them up in the microwave.
Once the food was ready, Andy carried the plates and a couple of glasses of water back to Megan's room. She opened the door quietly, not wanting to disturb Megan if she was asleep.
Megan was still awake, propped up on a pillow, scrolling through her phone. She looked up as Andy entered, a small smile on her face.
Andy handed her a plate of food and set the glass of water on the bedside table. "I brought you something to eat. Thought you might be hungry."
Megan's face brightened at the sight and smell of food. "Thanks, you're a lifesaver."
She accepted the plate and settled it comfortably on her lap, ready to devour the meal.
Andy settled down on the edge of the bed next to her. "No problem. How's your leg feeling?"
Megan shrugged, wincing slightly as she shifted her leg. "Okay, I guess. It's still pretty sore, but the pain meds help."
She took a bite of her food, her appetite finally making an appearance.
Andy nodded, her gaze fixed on Megan's leg. "I'm sorry you got hurt. It sucks that you're stuck on bed rest for a while."
