Carina complied, her body still weak and weary from the hospital stay. She leaned against Maya as she helped her out of her clothes and into a comfortable pair of pajamas.
Once Carina was settled in bed, Maya tucked her under the covers, making sure she was warm and cozy. She then retrieved Carina's favorite pillow and placed it behind her head, ensuring she had all the comfort and support she needed.
———————————————————————————————————Carina looked up at Maya, a mixture of exhaustion and affection in her eyes. "Thank you, Maya. I don't know what I'd do without you."
Maya sat down on the edge of the bed, her hand gently brushing Carina's hair back, tucking a strand behind her ear. "You don't have to thank me, love. I'm always here for you. You just rest now, and I'll take care of everything."
Carina's eyelids became heavy, exhaustion taking over her body. She snuggled further into the pillow, feeling safe and secure in their home.
Maya leaned down, placing a gentle kiss on Carina's forehead. "Now close your eyes and get some sleep. I'll be right here if you need anything."
Carina smiled faintly, feeling the weight of exhaustion pulling her into sleep. "Mhm, I love you."
Maya smiled back, her heart swelling with love for the woman in front of her. "I love you too. Sleep well, my love."
As soon as Carina's breathing evened out, signaling that she was asleep, Maya quietly stepped out of the bedroom and retreated to the living room.
She pulled out her phone and dialed her sister's number, the line ringing a few times before Megan picked up.
Megan's voice came through the speaker, sounding groggy as if pulled out of sleep. "Maya? It's three in the morning. This better be important."
Maya said "Your still in the hospital right."
There was a pause, followed by the sound of shuffling as Megan shifted positions. "Yeah, I'm still here. They're keeping me for observation. Why? What's going on?"
Maya let out a sigh, the worry evident in her voice. "I just wanted to check on you. I've been so worried. How are you feeling?"
Megan's tone softened, her voice still tinged with tiredness. "I'm alright, sis. Don't worry about me. What you need to be worrying about is Carina. How's she doing?"
Maya's heart softened, touched by her sister's concern for Carina. "She's doing better. We just got back home from the hospital. She's resting now, but she's still weak."
Megan's voice held a hint of relief. "That's good to hear. Carina's a tough one. She'll be back on her feet in no time."
There was a brief pause, then Megan's voice softened further. "You're taking care of her, right? Making sure she's comfortable and getting the rest she needs?"
Maya's heart warmed at Megan's words, knowing her sister's concern came from a place of love. "Of course, I am. I'm taking care of her every step of the way. Making sure she's comfortable, fed, and getting the rest she needs to recover."
Megan chuckled lightly, her exhaustion coming through. "Good. That's what I like to hear. Carina's lucky to have you. Now, you listen to me, Maya Bishop. You make sure you take care of yourself, too. Don't forget to rest and eat, okay?"
Maya said "Aren't I am the oldest."
Megan laughed softly, the sound warm and familiar. "Yeah, yeah. You're the oldest, but you're also the one who always forgets to take care of yourself when you're worried about someone else."
