Megan's words slurred and stumbled, her mind struggling to recall the details of their date. "We... we talked about... the future... and our... our dreams..."
Her voice was getting quieter, her eyes wanting to close more and more with each second.
—————————————————————————————————Andy squeezed her hand tighter, her worry growing. "No, no, no, you have to stay awake. Talk to me more about our future. Tell me about our dreams, okay?"
Megan tried to focus, but everything was hazy. "We... we dreamed about... having a... a family together... and... and owning a... a dog..."
Andy felt a burst of hope. Family dreams were something Megan had talked a lot about.
She needed to keep her focused. "That's right, we dreamed about having a family and owning a dog. What kind of dog did we want?"
Megan's eyes fluttered open again as she tried to think of the answer. "We... we wanted... a golden... retriever..."
She was still slipping. Andy knew she had to keep her talking. "That's right, a golden retriever. We wanted a big, happy golden retriever. What would we name him?"
Megan's voice was quieter now, but she managed to answer. "We... we would name him... Moose..."
Andy's heart ached. She was falling asleep. "That's right, Moose. We'd have a big, fluffy golden retriever named Moose. We also wanted to have kids, right?"
Megan's head nodded slightly, her eyes closing for a moment before opening again. "Yes... yes, we... we wanted... children..."
Her words slurred again, her body growing heavier by the minute. They were running out of time.
Andy's heart slammed into her chest as she watched Megan's eyes flutter shut and stay closed. "No, no, no, Megan, wake up. You need to stay awake!"
She shook her girlfriend, trying to rouse her, but it was no use. She was out cold.
Andy's panic flared into action. She had to get Megan help, fast. She started shouting for a doctor or nurse, her voice urgent and desperate. "Help! I need a doctor, please! Someone, help!"
Hospital staff started to rush towards them, their faces etched with worry. Andy quickly explained the situation through her panicked tears. "Megan's overdosed on Xanax, Vicodin, and Valium. She passed out, I can't wake her up!"
Teddy Altman and Owen Hunt, two of Grey Sloan Memorial's top doctors, quickly assessed the situation.
Owen's voice was calm and steady, betraying only a hint of worry. "How long ago did she take the pills?"
Andy was a wreck, but she managed to answer between sobs. "Just a few minutes, maybe five or ten. I tried to keep her awake, but she just passed out. She said she took three of each pill."
Teddy quickly checked Megan's vitals, noting her breathing and heart rate. "She's in bad shape, but she still has a pulse. We need to get her to the ER."
Owen nodded, his focus on getting Megan the help she needed. "I'll prepare a team. Let's move her to the emergency room immediately."
The next few minutes were a blur.
Owen and Teddy coordinated a team of nurses and aides to help transport Megan to the ER.
Andy hovered nearby, her worry and fear etched on her face. She followed as they wheeled Megan away on a gurney, her heart in her throat.
The firehouse crew had been keeping vigil in the waiting room when they spotted Andy being led away by Teddy and Owen. Their concern immediately spiked.
