Maya shook her head, still a little disoriented from her impromptu nap. "It's okay, I needed to wake up anyways." She ran a hand through her hair again, trying to tame the wild strands.
———————————————————————————Andy stepped into the office, closing the door behind her. "How are you holding up, Cap?"
Maya looked at Andy "Very tired."
Andy nodded understandingly, taking a seat across from Maya. "Egg retrieval can be tough, both mentally and physically. You need to take care of yourself, Cap. Resting is important."
Maya let out a soft sigh, her frustration returning. "I know, I know. But sitting behind this desk while you all are out there fighting fires... it's killing me, Herrera."
Andy looked at Maya "Maya Kathleen Bishop you look very tired."
Maya rolled her eyes a little, but couldn't disagree. She was exhausted, both physically and mentally. "Thanks for the update, Herrera. I'm well aware of how tired I look."
Andy chuckled slightly, shaking her head. "You know what I mean. You need to take it easy. We've got your back, and we'll handle things out there. Your job is to rest and get ready for the implantation."
Maya nodded, knowing that Andy was right, but still not liking it one bit. "I know, I know. I just feel so useless here, sitting behind this damn desk."
Andy reached out, placing a comforting hand on her friend's arm. "You're not useless, Cap. You're resting and taking care of your body, so you can start your family. That's important too, you know?"
Maya's shoulders sagged slightly, the tension in her body easing a little at Andy's words. "Yeah, I know. It's just... hard. I'm not used to being sidelined like this."
Andy looked at Maya "Your ready to go home."
Maya was about to protest, but a wave of exhaustion washed over her. She knew Andy was right. She was in no condition to keep working, her body and mind fatigued from the recent procedure.
With a heavy sigh, she nodded. "Yeah, I'm ready to go home."
Maya stood up from the bunk, her muscles protesting at the movement. She gathered her things, her movements a little slow and sluggish.
Andy stood up as well, watching her friend with a concerned gaze. "I'll drive you home. You're in no state to drive."
Maya looked at Andy "We live in the same house and you wanted to drive so we only have your car also go grab Megan."
Andy nodded, understanding the situation. "Okay, I'll grab Megan. You just wait here, I'll be right back."
With that, Andy left the office, leaving Maya alone in the quietness of the room. She sank back down onto the bunk, feeling the exhaustion wash over her once more.
A few moments later, the door opened again, and this time, both Andy and Megan entered the office. Megan walked up to Maya's side, her usual carefree demeanor replaced by a look of concern.
Megan put a hand on Maya's shoulder, her voice soft yet firm. "You look like hell, sis."
Maya chuckled wearily, appreciating Megan's ability to be blunt. "Thanks, Meg. I feel like hell too."
Megan gave a sympathetic smile. "We're taking you home, okay? No arguments. We're getting you some food and then bed."
Maya didn't have the energy to argue, even if she wanted to. She simply nodded, knowing that giving in was the easier option. "Fine, I surrender. Take me home, please."
