Week 144
Prompt
Oh, darling everybody sees how you look at him.
***********
Vals' hand rose to her throat, "I... thought only I could see him," she stammered.
"Well you thought wrong," Xaden said bitterly.
"Bob can see him too."
"But I thought-"
"Well, your thoughts are wrong."
"And to think you were in love with me, when it was him the whole time," he whirled around and gripped her shoulders, "Was it all even real, Vals?"
Vals looked into his eyes, her voice trembling as she whispered, "It was real for me, but my heart always belonged to him."
"That doesn't even make sense, Vals," the cat in the corner said, staring at her in almost disappointment.
She whispered, "Tell me, did it all not feel real?"
Xaden searched her eyes, a mix of pain and longing in his expression, "It felt real, Vals, but sometimes reality is just a fragile illusion. Every moment with you was real, but I could see the truth in your eyes when he walked in."
"Xaden I love you," she exclaimed, a tear welling up.
He held her head in his palms as he felt a fist squeeze his heart and radiate ice to his limbs, "I don't believe you."
Vals tried to convince Xaden that her feelings were real, but Xaden still didn't believe her
"I... I think it's best for both of us if I leave," Xaden whispered into her hair before pulling away, staring into her eyes one last time before turning.
"After all we've been through, you're just gonna walk away?"
Xaden walked away without a word and didn't turn back, leaving Vals standing there.
"Damn, he left."
Vals just stood there shocked that he actually left her when she had thought baking a pumpkin pie would make him forget.
As the camera stopped rolling, the ogre wiped his sweaty face and growled, "Cut!"
"Vals, where is the emotion? "
"Also, why was there a cat?"
The cat morphed back into an ogre, towering over them with a growl. "I told you, I'm not a cat!"
"Bob, stop turning into a cat, it's exhausting."
"Yeah, well, maybe you should try it sometime. Less responsibility, more naps."
Xaden grumbled, "I'm sweating like I'm in the sahara, can we turn on the fan?"
"Blame Eldra over there. She's the one messing with the thermostat, keeps saying it's too damn cold in here," Bob grumbled.
Eldra gasped, and shot out of her seat.
Vals and Xaden exchanged a glance, both silently questioning what they'd gotten themselves into and wondering if this was even supposed to be a romance at all.
"Positions," the Ogre clapped his hands.
"Why is an ogre directing again? Is he Shrek or something? What does he know about romance?"
"As a matter of fact, I am descended from the Great Shrek, so shut your mouth and get into positions," the ogre growled at Vals.
"This is the last time I ever sign up to be the lead in a romance," Vals said.
