"I didn't do anything. I was trapped."
The destitute pleas of Taimur was being unheard by the judge. He was desperately shouting and screaming that he was not in the wrong. He hadn't done anything wrong. He was innocent.
"I had proof. I could prove that I am innocent."
He again tried. Hoping that the judge might gave him a chance. Might hear him. But all he received was a harsh response
"You've had no proof. Instead of stalling, you can just accept your crime and maybe it'll cause a reduce in your punishment."
The lawyer of the plaintiff said. His eyes sparkling with the joy seeing Taimur in distress. He shook his head. The plaintiff wasn't even here present. Then, how could he have such an impact on the whole jury. On the justice system.
"My client is adamant that he's done nothing wrong. I think it's a great cause to give him a chance to prove himself right."
Taimur's lawyer tried one last plea. Of course. He wasn't heard too. Truth to be say, his claims didn't even sound legitimate. Like he was also on the bad side. Taimur knew it was his end. No-one would help him. He could see it right in those eyes. The lawyer who claimed would go to high to prove him right is now completely abandoning him.
The game was over. He was done for.
And the mere thought brought his eyes towards his family. His wife and his daughter. His very young teenager daughter. The nineteen year old Miraal's eyes connected with her father. Those innocent eyes that should never have been filled with tears are now bleeding with them.
And it brought Taimur such a poignant pain. He never wanted to see his wife and his daughter in such a condition. They were clearly getting affected by all of this. They were trying very hard to stay strong. But he could see their stance breaking. Their eyes giving away their fears. Yet, still his wife pulled her lips up in a bright smile.
She got his back. As always. He remembered those days when he got married to her. She was the best thing that ever happened to him. She gifted him the most precious treasure in the world. Their daughter. And he was so glad he got to spend those beautiful times with her. He wouldn't trade those years for anything.
He managed to pull up his lips in a small smile. Then, his eyes connected with his daughter. Upon the contact, Miraal immediately sobered up. She doesn't want to look weak for her father. She passed him a big grin and a thumbs up. And even in that dire situation, a chuckle left his lips. His eyes crinkle. He's gonna miss them so much.
At last, he looked at the boy sitting beside Miraal and Almirah. The twenty four year old Irtaza looking directly into his eyes. And unlike his family whose eyes with filled with tears, Irtaza's were screaming apology. They were silently asking for forgiveness. Taimur knew why he was doing that.
Irtaza was a lawyer too. But yet, he can't do a single thing right now. And that agitated him. But Taimur wasn't angry or hurt. No-one could've done anything at the moment. He was severely and utterly trapped. But before it all went down, he passed Irtaza a knowing look.
Asking him to take care of his wife. Especially, his daughter. He trust Irtaza more than anyone. When everyone left his side, it was him and his little sister Saima that stick with him through the end. He passed both his sister and his nephew a big worry-less smile. And it broke Saima down. She stifled her cries by covering her mouth with her hand.
