Viya turned the corner just as a griever cried out in the distance. Her room was just up ahead, but to Thomas and Minho it looked like another dead end. Thomas glanced at Minho nervously.

Viya approached the wall and lifted up the vines to reveal a pitch black hole. She motioned for the pair to enter, the boys hesitated, but when another griever screeched in the distance, they realized they didn't have much of a choice.

Minho entered first, Thomas close behind him. Viya took one last glance outside before she dived into the darkness.

The room was filled with darkness, only darkness. The kind where you couldn't see anything other than black.

"Don't touch anything." Viya said as she fumbled around in her bag.

She knew where everything was, but she knew that the boys would not, and the last thing she needed was someone messing all of her stuff up.

Viya slid open her box of matches and lit one. The flame illuminated a small circle around Viya, but not much more than that. Viya held the match to her oil lamp and slowly increased the size of the flame until the room was completely lit with the soft orange glow of fire.

Minho looked around the small room, taking in every detail. He first looked at the dashes on the wall, he didn't need to think about what they meant, he knew they were how many days she had been here for. He looked at her messy bed, at first he didn't notice that it was woven out of vines, but when he did he felt a pang of pity hit his chest. Lastly, his eyes fell on the giant map of the maze that was proudly carved into the wall. The sections were much more detailed than any map in the glade, every twist and turn was there, and some sections were even marked as 'griever zones'.

"You made this?" Thomas asked.

Viya nodded as she placed her match box back into her bag.

Viya placed her backpack onto the ground and sat back in her chair.

"How–"
"My questions first." Viya said, cutting Thomas off.

Minho turned his attention to the girl, he couldn't help but get lost in her deep brown eyes that reflected the orange glow of the lamp next to her. Viya looked older now, her face and jawline were more defined, she was slightly taller too. Her clothes that were once baggy were now tight fitting and he noticed her figure had changed. Her eyes were sunken in as if she hadn't gotten a good night's sleep in years (Which she hadn't). She looked completely different.

"Who are you?" Viya asked Thomas harshly.

"Thomas."
Viya tilted her head, "Are you a new one?" She asked, "...of course you are," She said to herself. "Why aren't you guys acting crazy?"
"I...I don't know." Thomas answered, confused by the question.

"...Strange, how'd you get stung?"
Thomas glanced at Minho. "We didn't get stung?"

"...Then why did you get banished?"

Minho and Thomas held eye contact, "We didn't." Thomas answered.

Minho felt slightly guilty for not answering any of Viya's questions, he had imagined talking with her again so many times in his head, yet now he was completely speechless.

Viya paused. "Then why are you here?"
Thomas glanced at Minho and nodded for him to tell the story, but Minho couldn't do it. He wanted to, but he couldn't.

Thomas sighed. "Alby got stung and Minho didn't make it back in time...and..." Thomas' voice trailed off.

"And?" Viya questioned.

"I went into the maze to help him."
"Jeez, where are you getting Runners these days..." Viya muttered.

"I'm not a Runner." Thomas confessed.
