Viya sat next to Minho on the worn deep green couch that sat in the settled dust of the staffroom. The sun had long sat yet the pair sat in comfortable silence as they breathed in the cool evening air. Their thighs rested against each others in such a way that neither of them cared but both of them noticed and silently hoped the other wouldn't pull away.
Their soft whispers had long disappeared yet there was no awkwardness in the air. Viya stared off into the never ending darkness, an unfamiliar feeling of content washing through her like a broken dam.
A hand slowly wrapped around hers, she let their fingers intertwine silently as she tried to hide the cheeky grin that tried to push its way onto her face.
"We should go to bed." Minho whispered.
"Yeah." Viya agreed.
Neither of them moved.
"We're almost out of food." Viya said quietly.
"Yeah." He muttered solemnly. "We'll figure something out. Especially with you here."
Viya's cheeks flushed, "We can always eat the cockroaches." Viya joked, "You know that they say that cockroaches can survive nuclear bombs."
"Well looks like you'll have a steady food source once they drop."
"What is that supposed to mean?"
"I have a running theory that you're immortal and can't die, so once you survive those nukes you and the cockroaches can be best friends." Minho explained with a laugh."Not funny." Viya returned Minho's remark with an elbow to the gut.
"Oww!" Minho complained.
"I'm sorry," Viya said genuinely.
"Well I'm sure there's something you can do to make it up to me." Minho said with a cheeky grin.
"Oh yeah?" Viya asked as she moved closer.
"Yeah," Minho said breathily as he pulled her closer.
Their lips were centimeters apart when a sudden rumble caused Viya to pause.
"What was that?" She asked, almost immediately a loud boom followed.
Minho knew what was happening this time and quickly pulled Viya onto the ground and shielded her with his body.
Unlike the last time there weren't multiple bombs, there was just one clean one. They laid on the ground for what felt like hours, Viya could feel herself sweating through her clothes as she laid stomach-down on the cold broken-tiled floor.
After what felt like years passed Minho slowly began to stand up, Viya followed his lead.
As Viya looked around the staff room to see if anything had broken, her eyes landed on an orange glow that was coming from outside. She stepped out of the room, her feet moving by themselves. Before she knew it she had reached the window–or the glassless hole in the wall–and was mesmerized by the sight she saw.
The wall was glowing bright orange.
Fire spread through it, she didn't even know cement could burn so furiously but she was looking right at it.
"Woah." Minho said, snapping Viya out of her daze.
She began to connect the dots as she stared at the blazing wall. This was part of the plan–the rescue plan, the rescue plan for Minho, the same Minho who was standing right next to her.
Shit.
"They don't know I have you." Viya muttered.
"What?" Minho asked.
"They don't know I have you." She repeated, this time loud enough for him to hear.
She heard Minho's footsteps leaving, her brain wondered where he was going but her eyes were fixated on the blown up wall.
