The quartet moved swiftly through the streets, making their way from building to building. Viya was in the middle of the pack, Gally led the way proudly. Piper was behind Viya, the usual upbeat girl had been quiet the past weeks, ever since her girlfriend's accident, she hadn't been the same. Kade was at the back. Viya had found it strange having him in their squad, but they needed the numbers. He tried to talk with Viya, yet the girl found conversation hard and wished he would leave her alone.

Minho had always known when she needed space.

Lawrence had assigned them to scavenge the ruins of the city. Their goal was to gather any useful supplies. In the old days the streets would've been packed with people, but now only the crows could be heard.

They approached another ruined warehouse, Gally paused before they entered.

"Stay close to each other, watch out for cranks." He warned.

Viya crept into the darkness, the only source of light came from the broken windows. The heavy metal shelves had been knocked over in the blast, their contents spilled all over the concrete floor.

The dark-haired girl began to sort through boxes and crates. She moved quickly, anything that didn't look worth her time was quickly discarded. She gathered up old batteries and fragments of rope. She found a box of matches and a container of bullets.

A groan came from behind the girl. She quickly spun around, drawing her gun and pointing it at the mysterious figure.

She could see it moving closer, her finger rested on the trigger. The man lunged forwards, but quickly stopped and his groan turned into a laugh.

"I totally got you!" Kade laughed, hunched over.

"That is not funny." Viya grumbled.

"It kinda is."
"Keep your voice down. We don't know what could be lurking in here."
Kade rolled his eyes, "We'll be fine." He assured.

Kade turned around and began to search through the rubble. Viya rolled her eyes as she walked over to another section of the warehouse.

She focused all of her attention on scavenging, the base's supplies had been dwindling, and she would not allow those kids to go hungry.

Suddenly, another low groan came from behind Viya.

"You're not tricking me again, Kade." Viya said, not bothering to turn around.

"What was that?" Kade yelled from a distance.

The hair on Viya's neck stood up as she slowly turned her head.

A hooded man stood behind her, she couldn't see his face, and he seemed to use that to his advantage.

He crept closer. Viya grabbed her gun, ready to bring it up and shoot the man if he dared to move too fast.

"It's you..." The man muttered, "It's really you...how'd you get here?" He took a step forward.

Viya stayed silent.

"You must've found a group...you must've." The man muttered, "Please take me back with you," He begged, "I...It's been so hard out here."
"Who are you?" Viya asked cautiously.

"I suppose you can't see me...can you..." he said with a laugh, "I won't hurt you Viya."
She took a step back, using her left hand to distance herself from the strange man. He tilted his head up, revealing his face.

It was him.

It was the man who had caused everything.

The man who had destroyed her life.
