The desert heat blazed down on Viya, her skin felt as if it was about to fall off. Her hair was frizzy and poofy with a layer of dirt stuck in it. Her shoes were worn out and her hands scratched.
It had been two days since Viya had deserted the Right Arm camp, she had been walking through the heat ever since. It had been simple at first, she would hide in caves during the day and walk at night, until she fell off a small cliff on one of her strolls. Since then she had been limping through any flat ground she could find. In those days, she had been unable to find any source of sustenance, who knew that a desert wasn't the best place to find food.
Her mouth was getting drier by the second every limping step she took, she had no idea where she was going, there was no goal in mind. Usually the goal would've been survival, but her chances at that were looking slim.
As she waddled on, she remembered how Watcher was still at the camp, she felt a twinge of regret for leaving him behind, not to mention she had also abandoned all of the people who were starting to care for her. Relationships were never Viya's thing. She missed the little robot, he was good company, he always knew what to say and when to say it. She'd sometimes still hear Watcher's voice inside of her head, along with the other voices. She recognized most of the people in her head, Jax was there most of the time, he'd tell her the logical choice, Watcher too, Minho used to have been, but not recently. Nash's squeaky voice was there too, from when he was younger, he'd often just scream at her. But there were two voices she couldn't place. One was an older woman who spoke gently and calmly, directing Viya with care, the other was a Man's voice that mostly called her stupid. A part of her longed to identify who the voices belonged to, but her other half wished to just ignore it and get the voices to leave all together. She knew they weren't normal, she never dared to tell anyone about them, they'd only see her as even more crazy than she already was.
Viya found it sort of ironic that she was alone again, isolation had a way of finding her. It had only taken her a day to get back into her hold habit. She would talk to herself, she'd time her breathing and count the amount of times she blinked. She would jump at every noise and chew her nails.
Viya stumbled as she walked, hunger was the only thing she could feel. She longed for a sip of water or one of those bland bars from the glade.
Viya was removed from her complaining when she heard a whirling sound from above. She glanced up at the dull blue sky. A black blob descended onto her, casting a large shadow onto her. It was already too late once she read the words on the side of the helicopter.
She tried to run away, to get away from her captors, but her deprived body was no use for the guards. They quickly swarmed her and tried to forcibly grab her. She fought with every ounce of strength she had left. She tried to bite, punch, kick, elbow, any limb she had free, she tried to use it.
In the end it was no use, there were too many of them and only one weak Viya. Eventually someone gave the call to tranquilize her, and before she could process what that meant, electricity flowed through her. She froze up and became involuntarily limp, she fell into the guard's arm and watched helplessly as they dragged her into the helicopter.

The vault consisted of one large, hefty metal door that was controlled by a keypad. The keypad was controlled by one keycard–the keycard Anvi had stolen. They were almost at the vault, and she was feeling none of Martin's confidence.
The vault was located on the edge of WCKD's infrastructure, every vault was different, but Anvi had been there long enough to understand the basics. It supposedly held all the supplies that one could ever need. WCKD had stockpiled supplies at the start of the outbreak, it was only there has a safety net, they didn't even need the supplies to survive. It was one of the reasons Anvi didn't feel bad for stealing, WCKD had a surplus of goods. There was just this odd feeling in her gut, like something was about to go wrong.
