The inside of the truck got darker the closer they got to the mountains. It was mid afternoon but it didn't look like it. The mountains casted long, dark shadows that consumed the car. The highway was bumpy, every so often Jorge would swerve to avoid giant potholes.

They had spent a night in Marcus's apartment, mostly waiting for Brenda and Thomas to sober up.
Viya had been slightly intimidated by Jorge ever since she saw him beat up Marcus, but the man seemed to pay little attention to her.

They had been driving for two hours already, Viya did not like being dragged along on this hopeless adventure, she doubted the very existence of a rebel group, especially after what she had seen in the city. Would a rebel group just be a bunch of adults partying for the last few months of their lives?

Viya sat in the back right side of the car, Minho had been shoved in the middle, Teresa on his other side. Brenda rode in the front with Jorge, the rest of the group had piled into the back.

Viya was still shocked that there was a working truck at all, she assumed Marcus had been stashing it in case of an emergency.

The truck slowly made its way through the stony mountains, there were many twists and turns in the route that Jorge didn't dare speed up.

When the truck finally came to a stop, Viya didn't hesitate to jump out of the vehicle. There was a hoard of discarded vehicles blocking their path. Viya grabbed her backpack off of the floor and swung it over her shoulders. She watched as Jorge handed her peers a few bag to carry.

"Looks like we're on foot from here on." Jorge stated as he started to walk, "Search the cars for anything useful."
Viya obeyed mindlessly as she headed towards a silver mini van that still had car seats in the back.

She looked through the windows, but the only thing she saw was cracker crumbs scattered over the floor and a discarded stuffed animal.

"See anything?" Minho asked from behind, causing Viya to jump.

"No." She said flatly.

Minho looked through the window, "What do you mean? Those crumbs look delicious!" He joked.

"You can take 'em' if you want, just don't blame me when you get sick." Viya said as she rolled her eyes.

"Well–" Minho's voice was cut off by bullets shattering the window in front of them.

Without thinking, Viya dropped to the ground behind the car, dragging Minho down with her. She subconsciously covered his body with hers and more bullets flew.

The bullets seemed to rain on them for hours, but eventually Thomas called out, "Is everyone okay?"
"Yep," Group's yelled back.

Viya pulled herself off of Minho awkwardly.

"All good!" Minho yelled as he held eye contact with Viya.

"When I count to three, run back to the truck!" Jorge called out.

Viya slowly adjusted her position so she'd be ready to run, Minho did the same.

"One! Two! Three-!"
"Drop it!" A new voice yelled.

Viya heard something metal hit the pavement.

"Everyone up! Hands in the air!" A blonde girl directed as she pointed her rifle in Viya's face.

Viya gritted her teeth as she stood up, Minho stood about a foot behind her, there was another group in front of them.

The two girls herded the group like sheep, The dark haired one was about to say something when she suddenly paused.
