Viya breathed a sigh of relief as her foot hit the ground for the first time in days. Her entire body seemed to get calmer just by knowing they weren't trapped anymore.
She could hear the menacing groans of cranks in the surrounding buildings, how lucky they had been for getting stuck in an uninvested building.
"Let's move quick." Viya decided, Minho didn't protest.
At first, Viya walked, she walked quickly but she didn't want to accidentally run into a hoard of cranks and be attacked. But the closer she got to the base, the quieter it became. You'd think hearing nothing would be calming, knowing that nothing was going to attack you. But it was the complete opposite. Cranks were the one constant in the environment, and if cranks weren't there then something was seriously wrong.
Viya soon began to run, part of her felt extremely free, being able to feel the rush of the wind again and to let her legs carry her through long strides. The other part of her was filled with worry and anxiety about what was waiting at base for her.
The eerie silence continued, somehow getting even more intense the closer she got. Minho's footsteps and light breathing were the only thing she could hear.
Eventually the wall came into view and Viya stopped right in her tracks. The entire wall was engulfed in flames and a giant hole had been blown right through it.
That was where all the cranks had gone.
They had all ran right into the city and were no doubt wrecking havoc over the city streets.
A smirk found itself on Viya's face.
She soon reached the base and eased herself to a stop. She looked around for any signs of life. Nothing.
She slowly looked around, a strange feeling of unease flowing through her.
"Hello?" She called out. "Lawrence? Gally?"
Silence.
"What–" Minho started.
"Hello?" She called out again, this time more panicked."Where is everyone?" Minho asked.
"I don't know!" Viya exclaimed.
"Viya?" A voice asked from behind her.
Viya whipped around only to come face to face with Brenda.
"Brenda!" She exclaimed, "Where are the others?"
"In the city–wait, how are you here?" Her eyes darted to Minho, "Minho? How are you guys out? Are the others in trouble? Where are they?"
"I–" Viya stopped, she paused before she continued, "I snuck away to go rescue Minho, I did, but after a bombing we got trapped in a building and we just got out now."Brenda's eyes widened, "The others are in the city right now rescuing you two!" She exclaimed, "This is bad...real bad..." She muttered.
Brenda quickly grabbed her radio out of her pocket, "You guys have to get out." She spoke.
"What?" Gally's voice asked.
"Viya and Minho are here, I'm looking at them right now. Get out. Run. Whatever you need to do." She explained.
"But how–"
"There's no time! Get out safely and we'll explain after."
"Fine," Gally finally said. "See you soon."
Brenda was about to speak when she was suddenly cut off by a loud whirring sound. Viya looked towards the sky, seeing the dark body of a Berg above them. She froze. Every instinct told her to run but her feet stayed planted.
