Viya stared blankly at the sleeping kids around her, their soft snores filled the helicopter, just like they had been for the past three hours. Viya was the only one awake, the others had all dozed off not even an hour into their journey. She didn't mind being the only one awake, even if she could sleep, she wouldn't want to. She didn't trust anyone enough to be that vulnerable around them. Clearly these pampered gladers didn't understand that they weren't safe yet.
She was alone in the farthest corner she could find, it was the perfect spot. She could see everyone easily, it was the perfect observation point.
She still couldn't believe that she was out. Mentally she was still trapped in that stone labyrinth.
When they had first taken off, Viya had gotten the perfect above view of the maze. She had always known it was large, but seeing just how large was different. It was hard for her to fully realize that she had left it all behind.
The hum of the helicopter was the only thing she focused on for most of the flight, she stared out the window, but was only able to see the endless abyss of night. It was probably better that way–she didn't actually want to see the world. Viya would be lying to herself if she said she wasn't scared. She had no clue what the future would hold, and part of her missed the normality that she had in the maze. Everything stayed the same in the maze, the walls were the only thing that changed, and Viya was okay with that.
Viya glanced back at the sleeping gladers, but to her surprise not all of them were sleeping anymore. Minho met her gaze, there was something in his eyes that Viya couldn't identify. Viya turned her head back to the darkness outside.
It wasn't long before the helicopter landed. The masked men slid the doors open and quickly pushed them out of the vehicle. Viya didn't protest when her arm was grabbed as she was led forwards. Viya ran towards the giant building that loomed over her. It's blinding lights illuminated the sand in front of her, she couldn't help but notice that gunshots were being fired around her. She continued to sprint calmly towards the doors, she felt an odd sense of comfort as she ran, it was the one thing that seemed to be staying the same.
Viya was the first one to enter the building, she watched as more and more teens entered the building. The doors slammed shut as the final boy–Thomas–entered the building.
Viya observed her surroundings, they seemed to be in some sort of warehouse, people ran around, seemingly in a panic.
"You kids gotta come with me." A man said as he quickly approached them.
He didn't waste any time before he started walking away. He led Viya and the group through a side door and down a hallway. Viya noticed how orange alarms–similar to the ones that were at the lab–were blaring. The man opened the first door he saw.
"In here, hurry!" He directed.
The kids all obeyed and entered the room.
"What are we-" The door slammed shut, cutting off Thomas's words.
The room was completely dark, Viya couldn't see anything. She instinctively walked away from the group. She walked backwards until her back hit a wall. Her hands explored the walls, searching for anything useful. She felt something cold on her finger tips, and as she explored further, she realized it was shaped like a switch. With little hesitation she flicked it, and luckily, the lights flickered on.
The room stayed silent, Viya looked back towards the gladers, only to see them all staring at a feast that was laid out for them.
"Dibs on the rice!" A boy claimed, causing the others to rush forwards.
Viya watched from the sidelines as the gladers went feral over the buffet. There had to be over a dozen dishes, chicken, rice, fruits, steamed vegetables, salads, baked potatoes, the whole works.
