Viya was up before the sun even had a chance to rise. She practically leapt out of bed. It wasn't long before she emerged from her room ready to put her plan into place. Her hair was slicked back into a tight braid, she wore her most basic clothes and carried her backpack stealthily.
The hallways were quiet, the perfect type of quiet, the type she needed.
She found her way into the storage room, she carefully closed the door behind her before she flicked on the lights. Boxes were stacked to the ceiling, some had labels, most did not.
She dug around in the boxes, easily finding the supplies she'd need. She found a lighter and some vacuum sealed food. She found a water flask and some bandages. She didn't know exactly what she'd need, but she tried her best to guess.
It took longer before she found the WCKD uniform Lawrence had talked about. It was in pristine condition, hanging elegantly in the closet. She grabbed it quickly, shoving it into her bag. She checked her watch—she'd have to be going soon.
She used the dimness to her advantage as she crept out of the storage room, she kept her ears open for any early risers.
The hatch to the sewers was near Lawrences office, she prayed no one would notice her and she'd be able to escape smoothly.
Her heart was beating at a million beats per minute. The only thing she could think about was Minho, she longed to see his face again and for him to be safe. Safe with her.
Viya waited behind a corner, she took a deep breath before she entered the room. Her hand barely grazed the latch when a voice spoke up from behind her.
"What are you doing?" Gally asked.
Viya hesitated before she turned around, "Nothing."
"It doesn't look like nothing." Gally questioned.
"Lawrence just asked me to check the tunnels for cranks, that's all." Viya lied.
"Right. Because you two are totally on speaking terms right now." The boy rolled his eyes, "Be honest with me Viya, tell me what's going on or I tell Lawrence."
Viya paused, "I'm taking things into my own hands." Viya said."And what does that mean?"
"If I can't help save Minho I'll do it myself." She admitted.
"Viya you can't seriously think you can do this alone, I mean–"
"We both know you can't stop me." Viya interrupted."I'm just saying it's foolish, you're gonna get caught!" Gally argued.
"I got nothing to lose, Gally." Viya said, "I know what I'm doing, and I don't really care if you believe me or not, because guess what, I'm leaving through this tunnel whether you like it or not, by the time you tell Lawrence I'll be long gone."
Gally paused, "I seriously can't convince you otherwise?"
Viya shook her head, "Nope."
He sighed, "Stay safe, be careful." Gally embraced Viya in a tight hug."If I'm not back in two days, assume the worst." She said.
"Well, don't you know how to reassure someone." Gally commented.
"Oh don't you know it." Viya said with a wink as she opened the hatch.
"But seriously," Gally said, "Be safe."
"When haven't I been?"

The air was thick in the tunnels, the type of air that made your mouth feel wet and your clothes feel damp. Viya held a flashlight in one hand. She didn't think she'd ever trust these tunnels, no matter how many times people assured her they were safe.
A mixture of excitement and fear flowed through her, in truth, she wished she didn't feel anything so then she'd be able to focus on the task at hand.
She could hear the train screeching past in the distance the closer she got to the tunnel.
Eventually she saw the light of the train tunnel and felt the wind rushing past her face.
She knelt on the edge of the ledge, she could see the end of the train in the distance, she waited eagerly, and eventually the train passed. She leapt down from the ledge, the gravel crunching beneath her feet.
She ran as hard as she could, Viya always felt free when she ran, it was as if her legs could carry her forever and most times she wished they could.
She reached the ladder quicker than she thought she would, she quickly scaled it and this time the hatch opened with ease. She climbed inside the small storage room, she took a brief rest before she began to comprehend she was actually doing it. She was actually in the city, and she was actually going to put on the uniform and she was actually going to see Minho again.
She slowly opened her bag, an odd sense of dread filling her. She had never doubted her plan before, so why was she now?
She began to get dressed in the WCKD uniform, though she felt as if she was betraying herself as she got dressed in it. Even if it was fake, she still felt like she was going against everything she had ever known.Viya pulled the mask over her head, she tucked her braid into her shirt as she looked around. At that moment she realized a problem, she didn't have a keycard or a launcher, there was no way she'd fit in without the distinct weapon, and how would she get into the building without a keycard?
...maybe she should've planned this out more.Viya paused for a moment to collect herself, she could do this. She'd just have to kidnap a guard or something, yeah she could do that.
Viya turned the handle of the door and pushed it open into the hall of the train station. All she had to do was find a guard somewhere, knock him out and then steal his things.
How hard could it be?
