Alex watched as Lucy returned with three other girls he didn't recognize. They were likely new recruits, brought in to take over when a boy and his coach won and left the games."Hey, everyone. Meet Snowy, Lilly, and Berry," Lucy introduced them.
The names sounded made-up to Alex, and he couldn't help but imagine these girls wanting to disappear after the games, avoiding any chance of the boys tracking them down for revenge.
"Oh, Alexis, that dress looks amazing on you," Snowy teased, her voice filled with mockery. The girls burst out laughing, except for Lucy, who looked unimpressed.
"Don't be mean, Snowy. Alex doesn't want to be a girl," Lucy said firmly.
Alex glanced up in confusion, surprised by her defense.
"But I want him to be one," Lucy continued, a mischievous glint in her eye. "How about we make a deal, Alex?"
Everyone perked up, curious about what Lucy was suggesting.
"For every round you win, you get to take off four girly things you're wearing. That means if you win just twice, you'll be back to being a 'normal' boy." She paused dramatically before adding, "But if you lose a round, we get to add something girly to you."
Alex hesitated. The odds weren't in his favor, considering there were four of them and only one of him. "Uhm, but you're with four, and I'm alone. That's not fair," he pointed out.
"True," Lilly said thoughtfully. "How about this: we need to win two rounds to put one thing on you."
Alex noticed Lucy wasn't thrilled with the adjustment, which made him even more inclined to agree. "Fine. But if I win two times, the game night ends, and you all go to bed. I'm exhausted."
Lucy looked reluctant but nodded. "Deal. Let's play."
The cards were dealt, and the game began. It moved quickly, and soon Berry was grinning.
"Last card!" she announced confidently.
While they played, the girls gossiped relentlessly.
"The new boys they bring here are always so gross," one of them said.
"I know, right? With their greasy, ugly hair," Snowy chimed in.
"We're doing them a favor by making them look decent," Lilly added smugly.
"That's not a favor; you're forcing us!" Alex snapped, offended.
Lucy smirked and asked, "Do you have pretty and clean hair now, Alex?"
Alex paused. She wasn't wrong—his hair was cleaner than ever. "It is, but you didn't need to turn us into girls to make that happen!" he shot back defensively.
"Oh, please. The body hair you boys bring in is disgusting. We have to make you more girly," Lucy argued.
"No, you don't—"
"I WON!" Berry interrupted, throwing her hands up in victory.
"That's one point for the girls!" Lucy cheered, high-fiving Berry and the others.
"Not for long," Alex said determinedly. "I'll win the next one."
The next round started, and Alex played strategically, trying to control the color. Snowy suddenly interrupted, "Oh! I almost forgot—I brought snacks!"
She revealed an assortment of ridiculous, girly treats: chocolates shaped like nail polish bottles, gummy lips, and other sugary absurdities. Even Alex had to laugh at how over-the-top they were.
