Chapter 9:

Yato Pov:

The cultural festival should end pretty soon as 4 p.m was right around the corner.

However...

Once again, I ended up running away from the maid café.

I planned to absent myself two times today without warning anyone.

The first one was for the meeting I organized with Tsukishiro's help back then before he left the school and his function as acting director.

The second time was for this precise moment if things turned out how I expected them to do...

Yato: ...

I was in the gymnasium, which was dedicated to the swimming class and club. Because of the festival, the place was deserted, and only the sound of the water echoed in it.

Yato: ...

I was sitting on the podium near the pool used for the people to jump in the water in competition.

I wasn't playing on my phone but instead was reading a book. It was a book I received from an unknown sender or perhaps from my best friend, "Baji Keisuke," as the message coming with the book said.

Tsukishiro: I've been curious, Yato-kun...

While flipping the book's pages, Tsukishiro's words from this afternoon came back to my mind.

Tsukishiro: Are you enjoying yourself right now?

Remembering his question, I couldn't help but sneer.

Waka: Stop laughing on your own. That's creepy...

Yato: Mhm?

I raised my eyes to see Waka sitting further away on a beach as he was reading some papers. The papers from the envelope I received from Atsuomi earlier today.

He only commented about my laugh but didn't bother to look at me as he seemed focused on those papers

Yato: You are still reading those, huh?

Waka: Every detail is essential. You said you want to keep them, so I prefer reading them correctly before leaving soon.

The festival will end pretty soon, and Waka staying any long could create some problems.

Yato: I see...

I had just started looking at the book in my hands when, shortly after, the door in front of me opened.
