Travis's POV
The first snowfall of the year. It's something I always look forward to, but tonight, with Taylor, it felt like it meant more than just the usual chill in the air. It wasn't just the snow itself—it was the way she looked when she saw it. The moment her eyes lit up as she spotted the first flakes drifting down outside, I knew this night was going to be something special.
We were curled up together on the couch, the fire crackling softly in the background, her head resting on my chest as we lazily watched a movie. It was the kind of evening where everything felt easy, like time was stretching out just a little longer than it should.
But then I heard her breath catch.
"Travis, look! It's snowing," she whispered, practically leaping off the couch and making a beeline for the window. Her eyes were wide with excitement, her smile reaching from ear to ear as she pressed her palm against the glass.
I leaned over, following her gaze out the window. The city was already covered in a dusting of white, the trees outside swaying gently in the cold breeze. But it was the look on Taylor's face that really got me. She had this pure joy about her when she saw snow—the kind of joy that was infectious, that made me want to experience it with her in every way possible.
"You wanna go out?" I asked, already knowing what her answer would be.
"Of course!" she replied, already pulling her jacket from the back of the chair. She slipped into it with a sense of urgency, her excitement radiating off her. "I've been waiting for this all day, Travis."
I chuckled, standing up and following her toward the door. "I'm pretty sure you've been waiting for this all year."
"Well, yeah," she said, her voice full of the kind of innocent enthusiasm only she could pull off. "Snow's only fun if you get to play in it. Plus, it's the first one of the season. I can't let that pass by."
I laughed, shaking my head as we stepped outside. The cool air hit me, but I didn't mind it. Not when I had her by my side.
We walked down the front steps and onto the sidewalk, the world already blanketed in soft snow. The quiet of the night was overwhelming, as if the world itself was holding its breath, and I loved that. It was just us, no rush, no one around, just the soft sound of the snow falling and the occasional distant car. The lights from the city twinkled behind us, but here in this moment, it felt like we were in our own little bubble.
I looked over at her, my breath fogging in the air, and I couldn't help the smile that spread across my face. There was something about the way she was looking at the snow—like she was seeing it for the first time. The way her hair was gently tousled by the wind, the way her cheeks flushed from the cold, the way her eyes shone with a kind of wonder that made me want to keep her in this moment forever.
"You're beautiful," I said, my voice quieter than usual, as I watched her twirl in the snow.
She stopped mid-spin and turned toward me, laughing. "Oh, stop. You're the one who looks ridiculous right now."
I raised an eyebrow. "Ridiculous?"
"Yeah." She gestured to the way I was standing, hands shoved in my pockets, looking all kinds of cozy but also very, very serious about watching her. "You're not even twirling. What kind of snow-loving person are you?"
I shook my head, a laugh bubbling in my chest. "You wanna see a real twirl?"
Before she could respond, I spun around dramatically, earning a playful eye-roll from her. She stepped toward me, her arms outstretched as she gave herself another twirl, the snow falling around her in flurries, her hair flying out behind her. It was like she was in her own little world, her laugh ringing out, pure and bright.
It was the kind of sound that made me feel like I was living in a dream. How was it that someone so perfect, so full of life, had found her way to me?
She stopped twirling and skipped over to me, her smile so wide it nearly swallowed her face.
"Okay, now you try," she said, grabbing my hands and pulling me toward the open yard where the snow piled up in thick drifts.
I let her pull me along, her energy infectious. And though I couldn't really dance in the snow like she could, I didn't mind it. I was too focused on the way she made everything feel lighter, even on the coldest, snowiest of nights.
When she let go of my hands, I reached out and grabbed her waist, pulling her into me as we stood there in the middle of the snowy yard. The world around us felt like it had gone silent, and I was acutely aware of every little thing—her breath against my neck, the heat from her body seeping through my jacket, and the way her eyes looked up at me, warm and inviting.
I leaned in slowly, my lips brushing against hers in a kiss so gentle it felt like we were both holding our breath. The snow swirled around us, but all I could focus on was the way her hands slid up to my neck, the way she melted into me like she was meant to be there, right in my arms, on this perfect night.
When we finally pulled away, I smiled, resting my forehead against hers. The night was peaceful, the only sound the occasional sigh of the wind and the soft rustle of the snow as it fell.
"I could stay here forever," she whispered.
"Same here," I replied, wrapping my arms tighter around her, pulling her even closer. "As long as I'm with you."
She laughed softly, brushing a stray snowflake from my cheek. "You know, you're pretty cute when you're not trying to be."
I grinned. "I'll take that as a compliment."
She leaned up again, kissing me softly, her lips cold but still so sweet, and for a moment, everything else disappeared. The world around us could freeze, and I wouldn't care. All that mattered was this—her, me, the snow, and the way our hearts beat in sync.
We stayed like that for a while, in the cold but perfectly content. Eventually, when our noses were too cold to ignore, and the chill of the air made us both shiver, we pulled back. I offered her my jacket, slipping it off and draping it over her shoulders.
"Thank you," she murmured, snuggling into the warmth of it.
"No problem," I said softly, kissing the top of her head. "You ready to head inside?"
"Not yet," she said, turning back toward the sky, her face lit by the soft glow of the streetlights and the glow of the snow. "I want to watch the snow for just a little bit longer."
I nodded, wrapping an arm around her as we stood there, side by side, watching the world slowly get covered in white. In that moment, everything felt perfect.
"I love you, Travis," she whispered, looking up at me, her eyes full of warmth.
"I love you too, Taylor," I replied, squeezing her closer. "More than you'll ever know."
And for the first time that night, I truly believed that.
