Travis's POV
It was hard to believe Taylor was turning 35. She'd always seemed timeless to me, like someone who could defy the passage of time and remain just as breathtaking as the day I first met her. But today, it was her day. Her birthday. And I was determined to make it unforgettable.
The pressure was on. Taylor never made a big deal about birthdays, always downplaying it with a shy smile and a casual shrug. But I knew she deserved the best. So, I took matters into my own hands. I'd spent weeks planning, keeping everything under wraps so she wouldn't suspect a thing. And let me tell you, keeping this secret was torture. But it was worth it. For her, everything was worth it.
I woke up early, my excitement nearly impossible to contain. The house was still quiet, save for the soft hum of the coffee maker in the kitchen. I slipped out of bed, careful not to wake her, and tiptoed downstairs to make sure everything was set.
First, I checked the decorations, streamers in her favorite colors, candles, and a banner that read "Happy 35th Birthday, Taylor." I grinned to myself. I didn't normally do this kind of thing, but Taylor made me want to be the best version of myself. I wanted to give her something more than just a gift. I wanted to give her memories.
Next, I checked the playlist. Taylor had told me once that she loved songs from the '80s, so I spent hours compiling a mix of her favorites, some upbeat, some slow, all perfect for the night ahead. I knew she'd appreciate it, even if she wouldn't admit it.
Finally, I moved on to the big surprise. Dinner. I'd arranged for a private chef to come over and prepare a special meal just for us. Her favorite foods, carefully chosen and paired with the perfect wine. All set to be served under the stars in our backyard, surrounded by twinkling lights and a small fire pit to keep the chill at bay.
I was just finishing setting the table when I heard footsteps behind me. Taylor's soft voice called from the doorway, "What are you doing down here so early?"
I turned around, my heart nearly jumping out of my chest. There she was, wrapped in a cozy robe, her hair tousled from sleep, looking more beautiful than ever.
"I was just getting everything ready for today," I said, trying to act casual, though I could feel the excitement bubbling up inside me.
Her eyebrows furrowed slightly, a playful smile tugging at her lips. "You're being mysterious," she teased. "What are you up to?"
I grinned, taking a step toward her. "It's your day, Tay. I just want to make it special for you."
Her eyes softened, and she walked over to me, wrapping her arms around my waist. "You always do," she whispered, resting her head against my chest.
I kissed the top of her head, savoring the moment. "Not yet, I haven't. Wait until tonight."
The day passed in a blur, me running around making sure everything was perfect while Taylor relaxed, enjoying the quiet of the morning. I couldn't help but steal glances at her when she wasn't looking. She was always so graceful, so effortless in everything she did. But today, I wanted her to feel special. I wanted to show her how much she meant to me.
As the evening approached, I sent her upstairs to get ready. She was wearing that smile again, the one that told me she had no idea what was coming. I couldn't wait to see her face when she saw everything I'd planned.
Once she was upstairs, I did a final check, lighting the candles, turning on the music, adjusting the table. I stood back for a moment, taking it all in. It wasn't a grand gesture, but it was all for her. Every detail was carefully thought out, just to make her smile.
