Taylor's POV
The table's full, all of Travis's family chatting and eating, but somehow, it's like none of them exist. Travis and I are in our own little world. The moment I catch his eye, a familiar mischief flickers in his gaze, and before I can stop myself, I'm already biting my lip to hold back the laughter bubbling up inside me.
Travis leans over, whispering something in my ear that makes me burst into laughter. His grin widens, and I can barely breathe as I try to stifle the giggles. But it's no use. I hear him let out a soft laugh, and suddenly, I'm laughing harder.
We're like two kids, caught in the middle of something completely ridiculous, and none of it even makes sense. I toss a look at him, trying to regain composure, but he's not having it. He starts whispering again, and it's like an unstoppable chain reaction.
I can feel the weight of the eyes at the table. I glance up, and sure enough, everyone's staring at us like we've completely lost it.
"Okay, okay," I manage to say through my laughter, trying to breathe. "What is happening right now?"
Travis smirks, holding back another burst of laughter, but I can see the tears starting to form in his eyes. "You started it."
I laugh even harder at that, my body shaking. "I did not!"
"Yes, you did," he insists. "You were the one who said Ed's chair looked like a throne."
I immediately burst out laughing again, and Travis joins in, the two of us shaking with laughter like we're the only two people in the room.
Jason, who's been eyeing us with a mix of amusement and annoyance, clears his throat. "Alright, what's so funny? You two are acting like you've been in a comedy show."
Travis leans back, wiping his eyes. "It's not just that," he says, still struggling to hold it together. "You've got to admit, Ed's chair does look like it's straight out of the royal court."
"And don't forget the cushion!" I add, trying to get the words out between laughs. "I swear, it's like the chair's been personally blessed or something!"
Everyone at the table is looking at us like we've completely lost our minds, but it only makes us laugh harder. Travis continues, barely able to keep a straight face. "And then I said, 'Man, I would sell my soul for that chair.'"
I nearly choke on my drink as I laugh. "I was crying just thinking about sitting in it. Like, who do we need to bribe to get that chair?"
"Good luck, the Kelce family throne is probably under lock and key." Travis gives me a sly wink, and we both crack up again.
Jason rolls his eyes, but I can see a hint of a smile tugging at the corner of his lips. "You two are ridiculous."
"Okay, we promise to stop," I say between giggles, trying to calm myself down. "But seriously, Ed's chair. You had to be there."
"Right, sure," Jason says, his tone dry. "So, what's next? The throne of Avalon? The Holy Grail?"
I gasp dramatically, trying to catch my breath. "Wait, Jason, that's it! The chair is the Holy Grail!"
At that, Travis bursts out laughing again, and I join him. The laughter is like an unstoppable force, and I can barely get the words out. But we manage to keep going, leaning on each other for support, tears streaming down our faces.
Kylie, who's been watching us with a bemused expression, raises an eyebrow. "So... all this because of a chair?"
Travis, wiping away tears, nods enthusiastically. "It's not just any chair, though! It's THE chair."
"Okay, now you're really losing me," Kylie says, clearly not getting it.
"That's because you didn't see the throne!" I say, still laughing. "It's got this cushion, and it's like, memory foam or something. You could fall asleep in that chair for days!"
Ellie shakes her head with a giggle, and Wyatt giggled as well. "Uncle Travvy is crazy? I don't get it."
"It's just one of those things, okay?" Travis says with a grin, clearly enjoying the reaction. "You had to be there."
"Or maybe you guys are just trying to make us laugh," Jason teases, crossing his arms. "You do realize I'm going to start charging you two for entertainment. I'll set up a ticket booth."
This only sends us into another fit of laughter, as Travis leans into me, still holding onto the edge of the table to keep himself steady. He wipes his eyes again, his grin as wide as it's ever been.
It feels like it's never going to end, but we're both too deep in the moment. Finally, when the last giggle dies down, Jason glares at us, but there's still a trace of a smile there. "I don't know if you two are making jokes or just talking nonsense," he says. "Either way, you're driving me crazy."
Travis just shrugs, still smiling. "That's what you get for inviting us."
Travis and I sit back, wiping away the last of the tears from our eyes. My chest still hurts from laughing, but it feels so good. Like we've shed off some of the weight that life sometimes drapes over us. I glance over at him, still unable to hold back a grin, even though I can see Jason's still giving us the side-eye, his arms crossed and a half-smile tugging at his lips.
Kylie shakes her head at us, but I can see her trying not to smile, her lips twitching like she's about to crack. "You two seriously need help," she says, but there's no real sting to her words.
Travis leans back in his chair, looking like he's just won a major victory. "Yeah, well, you should've been there," he says again, as if that's the final answer to everything. "I'm telling you, it was pure comedy gold."
I can't help but laugh again, just at the memory of it. And when I look at Travis, his eyes are sparkling, that mischievous glint still dancing behind them, like we're sharing some secret nobody else understands. It's comforting in a way I can't quite explain, like we're two sides of the same coin, always laughing and always there for each other, even if the whole world is clueless.
Ed, who's been quiet this whole time, leans in from across the table, his face serious but his voice light. "Okay, now that you two have had your fun, who wants dessert?"
"Only if it's something that makes me laugh like that," Travis replies, grinning wide. He throws me a sideways glance, and I know he's thinking the same thing as me: nothing beats the kind of laughter that comes from inside, when you're so caught up in the moment that you can't stop, even if your stomach aches.
Donna, who's been quietly watching us, finally chimes in with a smile. "Don't even think about it, Travis. We're saving that dessert for people who behave."
"Behave?" Travis raises an eyebrow. "I'm pretty sure I'm the one behaving here. Have you seen the troublemaker sitting next to me?" He shoots me a teasing look, his grin full of mischief.
I roll my eyes but can't suppress a laugh. "Oh, please. You're the one who started it. I'm just along for the ride."
Jason snorts, finally breaking his grumpy facade. "You two are dangerous," he mutters under his breath. "Can't believe I'm related to you."
"Hey, at least we keep things interesting," I reply, sticking my tongue out at him.
And just like that, the atmosphere around the table shifts. The tension that had been there earlier, even if it was subtle, is gone. Everyone is lighter, laughing in their own ways. Even if they didn't fully understand our little inside joke, they can appreciate the connection between Travis and me.
As dessert is served, Travis leans over again, his voice low and teasing in my ear. "You know, I think we just became the funniest people in this room."
I can't help but grin, leaning into him as I whisper back, "I think we just made everyone's night a little brighter."
And in that moment, surrounded by family, dessert, and the sound of laughter, everything feels like it's exactly as it should be.
