Travis's POV
The first snowfall of the year always feels a little magical.
We're walking down a quiet street in Kansas City, just the two of us, bundled up in thick coats, hands buried deep in our pockets. The streetlights make the falling snow glow, tiny white flakes swirling around us like we're in a snow globe.
Taylor looks up at the sky, her breath visible in the cold air, and grins. "It's so pretty."
I watch her, not the snow. "Yeah, it is."
Her cheeks are pink from the cold, her curls peeking out from under her beanie. She's hugging herself, rocking back on her heels like she's trying to absorb the moment, and I don't think I've ever seen anything so effortlessly beautiful in my life.
We've only been dating for a little while—just a couple of months—but it already feels like I've known her forever. And at the same time, every second with her still surprises me, still makes my heart do this stupid little flip in my chest.
She turns to me, her eyes bright. "Dance with me."
I blink. "In the snow?"
"Yeah." She reaches for my hands, pulling them out of my pockets. "Come on. No music, no cameras, just us."
I let out a breathy laugh. "I can't dance, babe."
She just rolls her eyes and pulls me closer, her hands warm even through my gloves. "Good thing I didn't ask you to."
And just like that, we're swaying in the middle of the empty street, snowflakes catching in her eyelashes, her laughter mixing with the hush of the night. I have no idea what I'm doing, but I don't care.
Then, out of nowhere, she sighs happily and leans her forehead against my chest.
"I love you," she murmurs.
My whole body locks up.
She stills too, realizing what she just said. I feel her tense, like she wants to take it back, like she's about to panic.
She pulls away slightly, wide-eyed. "I—"
"Say it again," I whisper before she can overthink it.
She stares at me, searching my face, her lips parting slightly.
I squeeze her hands. "Please."
A small, nervous laugh bubbles out of her. "I love you."
Something in me melts.
I don't even try to stop the grin spreading across my face. "Good," I say, voice rough. "Because I love you too."
Her breath catches, and then she's throwing her arms around my neck, hugging me so tightly I almost lose my footing on the icy ground. I hold her just as tightly, my face buried in her curls, breathing her in, feeling her warmth despite the cold air.
The snow keeps falling around us, but I don't care.
This moment, this girl, this is everything.
We're both grinning like idiots when we finally break apart. Taylor sniffles a little, her nose pink from the cold, and laughs. "God, that was embarrassing."
I shake my head. "No, it wasn't." I squeeze her fingers, swinging our hands between us as we start walking again. "You love me. I love you. No take-backs."
She tilts her head, pretending to think. "What if I change my mind?"
I stop dead in my tracks, yanking her back toward me, making her yelp. "Too late, sweetheart. You're stuck with me now."
