Taylor's POV
The sun was beginning to set, casting a warm golden glow over the city skyline. I sat on the balcony, pulling my oversized sweater tighter around my shoulders as the cool evening breeze wrapped around me. It felt perfect. My favorite part of the day, when everything slows down, and I can just be in my thoughts. But mostly, I was waiting. Waiting for Travis to come home.
I heard the familiar sound of keys jingling at the door, followed by the soft thud of boots hitting the floor. Then, his voice, deep and comforting, filled the space.
"I'm home!"
I smiled, feeling my heart flutter just a little. It didn't matter how many times I heard him say those words; it always felt like home. I grabbed the blanket from the chair and wrapped it around my shoulders before heading inside. As soon as I stepped into the entryway, I found him, hanging up his jacket and grinning at me like he hadn't seen me in years.
"Hey, beautiful," he greeted me, his eyes softening the moment they landed on me.
"Hey," I replied, smiling up at him. "How was your day?"
"It was alright," he said, shrugging. "But now it's better."
He pulled me into a hug, and I immediately relaxed into him, burying my face in his chest. He smelled like fresh air and grass from practice, and for some reason, that always made me feel at peace. I closed my eyes for a moment, letting the world fall away.
"I missed you," he murmured, his lips brushing my forehead.
"I missed you too," I whispered, my voice barely audible as I pulled back to look up at him.
"How about we grab some dinner and watch a movie?" he suggested, brushing a strand of hair behind my ear.
I nodded, already feeling lighter. "That sounds perfect. But only if it's a rom-com. I'm in the mood for something cute."
"Rom-coms are my specialty," he teased, grinning wide.
We headed into the living room, and he sat down first, patting his lap. I didn't need an invitation—he always made me feel safe and comfortable, like nothing could go wrong as long as I was with him. I climbed onto his lap and settled in, resting my head against his chest. His arms went around me, and the world just felt...right. No distractions, no worries—just us.
As we scrolled through options, I couldn't help but smile at how natural this all felt. How easy it was to just be with him. I'd never expected to find someone like Travis—someone who could make me laugh until I couldn't breathe, who understood me in ways no one else had. Someone who made the world feel a little less chaotic.
We finally picked a movie, and as it started, I leaned into him even more, allowing myself to relax fully. I loved the way his hand moved idly through my hair, the quiet presence of him. We laughed at the silly scenes and made jokes about the characters, the kind of jokes only we would get. It felt so normal, so comfortable. I realized I never wanted this night to end.
When the credits rolled, Travis stretched, yawning dramatically, but when his eyes found mine, the smile on his face softened. "You know," he said, voice low and serious, "I think I could get used to this. Just...being with you. Like this."
I lifted my head to meet his gaze, my heart thudding in my chest. "Me too," I said, my voice soft. "I like how everything slows down when it's just us."
He smiled, brushing his thumb over my cheek. "You're my home, Tay."
His words melted me, and I let out a soft laugh. "You're ridiculous," I teased, but I couldn't hide the smile that tugged at my lips. "But I love you for it."
