Travis's POV
I watch Taylor from the corner of my eye as she fiddles with her water bottle, clearly not as thrilled as I am about the hike. It's early morning, the sun just starting to peek over the horizon, and I can feel the excitement bubbling up inside me. I turn to her with a grin.
"Ready for some adventure?" I ask, trying to hide my enthusiasm.
She squints at me over her sunglasses, raising an eyebrow. "Define 'adventure,' because I'm not sure 'sweating through a hike' qualifies."
I laugh, reaching for her hand. "Trust me. You're going to love it."
She shoots me a skeptical look but lets me tug her along toward the trailhead. "You said that about the last time we tried 'adventuring,'" she teases, her voice warm with the familiar playfulness that always makes my heart race.
I grin, squeezing her hand. "This time's different. I promise."
We start walking, the dirt path underfoot and the trees overhead providing a perfect amount of shade for a peaceful morning. I catch her glancing around, her face softening as she takes in the surroundings.
"You know," she says, her tone a little less sarcastic now, "I did kind of miss the outdoors."
I can't help but smile, glancing at her. "See? You're already coming around."
She rolls her eyes, but her lips curl up at the corners. "Don't get too cocky, Kelce."
We walk side by side for a while, the only sound between us the crunch of gravel and our footsteps on the trail. Her hand brushes mine, and I take the opportunity to slip my fingers between hers, not missing the way she instantly relaxes into the touch.
"Feeling better yet?" I ask, grinning.
"Getting there," she admits, the hint of a smile in her voice. "As long as you don't make me climb any mountains."
I laugh. "It's just a little hill, angel. And trust me, when we reach the top, it'll be worth it."
She sighs dramatically, but there's a twinkle in her eyes. "You know you're lucky you're cute," she mutters.
I chuckle, pulling her a little closer as we continue up the trail. There's no place I'd rather be than right here, with her hand in mine, laughing at her dramatic complaints. The world feels a little bit brighter with her by my side.
"Travis, I swear to God, if you say 'almost there' one more time, I'm pushing you off this mountain."I bite back a laugh, glancing over my shoulder to see Taylor standing dramatically on the trail, hands on her hips, looking pissed.
Her oversized sunglasses are sliding down her nose, her cheeks are flushed from the climb, and she's got her water bottle clutched in a death grip like it personally offended her.
"We are almost there," I say, grinning. She groans, tilting her head back like she's asking the heavens why she ever agreed to this.
"You said that twenty minutes ago."
"And I meant it," I say, stepping back toward her and tugging on the sleeve of her hoodie. "C'mon, angel, you got this."
She narrows her eyes at me. "Travis, my legs are about to file for divorce from my body. I didn't sign up for an expedition."
I chuckle, wrapping an arm around her shoulders and pressing a kiss to the top of her head. "You signed up for dating me, and sometimes that includes adventures."
"Adventures?" she repeats, deadpan. "Travis, this is a death march."
I laugh, keeping her close as we keep walking. The truth is, she's doing great. Yeah, she's complaining, but she's keeping up just fine, she just likes to be dramatic about it. And honestly? I love it.
