limerence

my friends all say you're not much of a catch,
but they don't know you like that -
in my stupid head
you're still my best match.

and I'm no better than that
I'm no better than you,
so long I just assumed -
but you keep proving me wrong,
every time I try to move on
you're still there,
turns out you were never really gone.

and something always keeps stringing me back along,
I'm defenseless, it's senseless
trying to be strong
you put the tragedy in every song
I listen to -
so here I am: with you.

and it's so fun,
just thinking about you, it's cruel
and now you're laying down your cards,
pulling me right back into your arms
and even if I tried,
I couldn't lie
'cause it's pretty tough, it's hard -
but I've never written better art.

and in all honesty,
I just kinda like
how you keep tearing at my heart,
so carefully -
you pull and I watch
and I hope you don't stop

'cause ...

you're my bestest enemy
and my worst lover,

my fakest adventure,
my most vivid dream,

my next best poem,
my melancholy.

a quite ironic piece of poetry - about what you could call limerence - romanticizing a person one barely knows (or for no actually rational reason behind it); ... "It is the fantasizing that's exciting, more than the realization (the bringing to life) of the fantasy."

I just wanna mention that this poem is certainly not about love (like actual love), but I guess or hope that's clear anyway.

thank you so, so much for reading! and I hope you liked this poem <3
