Over quite some time I gathered a little coll...
if I didn't have blurry polaroid pictures of palm trees in my pockets, if I had never written those pretty poems then, if I had missed the sunflower field the train passed when I returned to visit by only even just one second, if I wouldn't have looked up...
or if it wasn't for the gas station stops in the midday heat and the southern italian sunsets I was watching from your passenger seat, as you were driving me back home. if it wasn't for fresh fruit from markets or the handprinted clothes I bought, woven from natural fabrics, or the black electricity wires breaking the soft blue of the sky above us, the bold contrast...
if there had never been that one calm sunrise at the lake, or your tent or my mattress or my lighter and your cigarette, or the scent of cinnamon incense, your favourite. if we had never been to the waterfall that day or if I had never met your wonderful friends, if we had never sat on the roof of their camper to watch the world from above, or if those guys would've never hung up that hammock and if they hadn't made those delicious pancakes for breakfast - (sometimes I still think of them...)
if one of us lost that seemingly endless supply of coins we used for coffee on the way, if you spoke my language, or if I would have never learned yours... if it had been thunderstorms instead of july sun, if all those moments would just simply be gone - never happened - if I had never had any of that and instead - if you had actually spoken the truth...
I just ask myself would I have even known how to really like you?
