trigger warning: this poem is not about self-harm, but I use knifes, scars and blood as metaphors. if that's a sensitive topic for you please read at your own risk or feel free to leave the page here. I'd not be mad; much love <3

you carve me like you're a knife cut along my fading scars and lines, you're just a liar and a thief stealing my precious time from me. I know all of that and I'd try to break free, but I'm too busy bandaging the traces you leave.
you reflect me only in mirrors that seem to show the worst of me, doesn't matter if I look away or shatter them completely, it just turns out either way I'll bleed; you'll pour it again all over me it'll take me hours to clean, so again I ask the mirror: "why the hell would you do this to me?"
I can look right through you, yet all I find is just my own face, but maybe that's just the reason why I can't erase that god damned blood red beautiful paint. it stains, everyday - and in the wrong place here I stay, addicted to your toxic ways.
you distract me from what I actually need, sometimes even from my poetry, and lure me in like a thriller on a movie screen: I know you're just superficial and yet you keep me hooked, up until my soul feels so deceived and overlooked.
betray is just your second name, for you I'm nothing, but a dog on a chain but wait... f*ck wait... to my dismay, I notice I carry the keys - oh what irony, what shame... I had them with me all day.

when I wrote this I was thinking about perfectionism, setting unreachable expectations for oneself and being therefore so distracted from what's actually important - this is not about self-harm (but could be if you'd want it to ofc), I just loved to play with exaggerated metaphors here.
please stay safe from any toxic behaviors towards yourself, but if you can't please feel free to text me too of course if you want to - sending lots of love and thank you so much for reading. <3
annotation: I thought the title "blood red roses" was fitting 'cause of the thorns and because it's the book's title too and I thought it'd be nice to have a poem of the same name.
