"Everything we hear is an opinion, not a fact. Everything we see is a perspective, not the truth."
Author's Pov:
Eunwoo: You're good at lying, you know.
His voice cut through the stillness of the balcony, catching you off guard. You glanced at him, his expression unreadable as he leaned on the railing.
Y/n: (chuckling softly) What did you expect me to do, Oppa? March in there and tell her the truth? Tell her I went to prison after killing Do-Hwan? That Jin-hyuk—the man she trusted—was the reason she ended up in a coma?
You paused, your voice dropping into something softer, tinged with bitterness.
Y/n: You lied to her too, Oppa. You made her believe I went abroad for studies. All I did was build on the story you started. I just added a little more to your lie, that's all.
His jaw tightened, and he exhaled sharply, shaking his head.
Eunwoo: That wasn't my point, Y/n. I didn't lie to protect myself—I lied because I didn't want her to suffer any more than she already had. She lost her parents, you disappeared, and then she nearly lost her own life. I didn't have a choice.
Y/n: And you think I did?
Your voice was sharper than you intended, the years of guilt and frustration bubbling to the surface. You turned to face him fully, gripping the cold railing until your knuckles turned white.
Y/n: Do you think I wanted to leave her? Do you think it didn't kill me to hear about her wedding from secondhand whispers, to know I couldn't be there when she needed me most? I made choices, Oppa. Terrible ones. But they were the only ones I had left.
He sighed, running a hand through his hair as his gaze softened.
Eunwoo: I know, Y/n. I know you didn't have a choice. But carrying all of this on your own? Pretending everything's fine when it's not? That's not the answer either.
You turned away, staring out at the star lights, your chest heavy with the weight of his words.
Y/n: It's better this way. She's happy, Oppa. She has her son, she has you, her life, her stability. Why drag her into the darkness I barely escaped from? She doesn't need to know what happened, Oppa. She's been through enough.
Eunwoo's expression softened slightly, though his eyes remained serious.
Eunwoo: Maybe. But what about you? How long do you plan to carry this alone?
Y/n: As long as I have to. Unnie deserves to be happy. She deserves to believe that everything's okay, even if it means I have to carry the weight of the truth alone.
Eunwoo: You've always been like this. Taking everything on yourself, never letting anyone help you. It's admirable, sure, but it's also... exhausting. Isn't it?
