Finally, the day of the party arrived. Appa is looking forward to it and has left no stone unturned in inviting people. I mean it because I could see horror in Anna's eyes when he saw the guest list. The best part (note sarcastically) is that everyone RSVP'd.
There is this huge unsaid pressure on me. How am I supposed to meet all of these people? What am I supposed to talk to them? In this one month of being Amrutha Gowda, I realised that my dad and brother are men of standard. I am not doubting myself, but they have seen a lot; this is new for me. Oh God, I'm freaking out right now.
"Hey! All ok?"
I turned my head to the voice. It was Anna. He was standing at my door, concern visible on his face.
"Yeah, all ok just getting ready for tonight," I replied.
"Are you sure? We can always call it off if you're not ready."
"No! That's not needed. Appa's so excited about all of this, and it's just one party. Let's get it over."
"As you wish."He paused for a bit. "Also, my friends are going to be there. You wanted to meet all of them, so you can meet them today. Trust me, they are amazing people."
"They are your friends, they will be amazing to you. That doesn't apply to me as well, right?"
"Nonsense, it does!" He replied.
"Oh really? My friends are amazing to me and you find them annoying. You even complained the other day about how noisy we were when we had a sleepover." I reminded.
"That is different, you guys were noisy. I could hardly concentrate on my work." He admitted rather annoyed.
"What's happening here? Why are you both fighting? As much as I love seeing my children, act like siblings and not long-lost ones. Everything has a limit. Why are you irritating her?" Appa always has my side.
"Me? Irritating her? We were just having a normal conversation, and she was the one who had to pick out of a fight."
"Hey, this is not a fight. We were just arguing." I bit my tongue realising my mistake.
"Arguing! She's agreeing to it, nim magalu. I just came here to make sure she's alright and not freaking out now."
(nim magalu = your daughter)
He stormed out but turned back...
"We are leaving together. Do not even think about leaving this house without me." He finally stormed out of the corridor.
"Now, are you ready to see your new world?" Appa asked sitting beside me.
I nodded in response. I knew if I opened my mouth I would let out my nervousness and make Appa rethink his decision.
