Old Friends

it has been a few weeks since y/n was ambushed by the soldiers from project ultima and the ex assassin set up some effigies, that Eda showed him how to make, around the isles to listen in on any magical communication regarding of strangely dressed people or if Belos had met and hired some odd new people in person recently.

this kind of information would be easier to get by bugging Belos's castle with the effigies but y/n couldn't find a way into the place cause ever since Luz and Jack's attempted robbery of the tyrant security was tripled with more guards patrolling the grounds and being stationed in the ramparts Belos even constructed new towers with the demon realms equivalent of a searchlight in each one turned on when night falls.

the only way to bug the castle was to get an inside man but ever since the Belos confrontation his original inside man his brother Alastair was not an option, the best he could do was find someone disagreeing with Belos in the emperor's coven and go from there but if the makeover in Bonesborough was anything to go by that would be near impossible.

y/n: maybe i'll get lucky and find  a coven head that wants to oppose Belos.

y/n was in his workshop where he was listening in for anything but he didn't hear of anything of importance at least to him mostly just regular conversation and inanities.

y/n: slow day in the isles huh.

but then something about three figures in the woods came up from someone who was robbed by them.

y/n: well then into the forest i go.

y/n got out of his workshop and left a note on the fridge that he was taking a walk then left the house and headed into the woods.

timeskip.

he was walking for about an hour and there was nothing.

y/n: maybe i should've just waited for something more concrete.

then he heard gunfire.

y/n: finally something.

he runs over to where the gunshots are being fired and sees quite a site three people in military gear fighting six soldiers from the ultima program with about six bodies on the ground wearing the same uniforms as those from the program.

y/n: i should help them out.

y/n pulls out ebony and ivory and opens fire on the program soldiers and destroys them via 3 double headshots.

y/n: alright you three why are you here and it better be a good answer.

???: wait a minute, y/n!?

the three then take off their masks and y/n is shocked at who he sees.

James, Charles, and Mary old friends from his assassin days.

and with a smile he hugs all three of them.

y/n: what are you three doing here?

James: well after we completed a job those guys from the program you helped us out with found us at our hideout and well long story short we got chased into here.

y/n: how long have you been here?

Mary: 'bout a week the food we brought with us ran out so we robbed people.

Charles: only of their food.

James: so this is where you've been all these years?

y/n: yep welcome to the boiling isles.

Charles: so that's it's name, neat.

Mary: since we're stuck here you know anyplace we can stay?

y/n: i know a good hideout you guys can use.

Charles: and after we've settled in i'm sure under you we will be living like kings as the top assassins in this place.

y/n: that is where your wrong.

James: wait what?

y/n: i've retired i got married had kids i'm done being an assassin, and maybe you should too that life can only lead to one end and it's not a happy one.

Mary: that may work well for you y/n but we need a cause a reason to kill for because it's all we've known since the program had taken us, if you can't lead us anymore than at the least direct us to someone who can give us a purpose.

y/n: i will but all i ask is that you three consider retirement at the least, it was hard for me to give up that life but ever since i have never been happier.

Charles: forgive me for asking but you didn't look all retired when you gunned those guys down.

y/n: believe me it's not by choice the program must have somehow found a way to get here and normally the only two way to get here are spontaneous rifts or a door that was destroyed fairly recently.

James: shit that's not good.

y/n: well either way follow me i'll bring you to your new hideout.

Mary: we have jet packs if you want to make this fast.

y/n: nah lets walk and catch up, i've really missed you guys.

and after a long walk to the hide out catching up with his old friends he head back home and enters the Owl House where he saw his wife on the couch.

Eda: must have been one nice walk since you have that grin on your face.

y/n: it really was.

Eda: think you can help tomorrow for something.

y/n: sure what is it.

Eda: as you know witches at some point in their lives get palisman staves and tomorrow that's what students at hexside will be getting, the problem is normally they would carve the palisman from wood from palistrom trees but those have been overharvested to point of endangerment, so i've been in talks with the Bat Queen and Bump to make a palisman adoption day using the abandoned palisman in Bat Queens forest.

y/n: that is awesome of you Hon.

Eda: aren't i always.

they laugh and start getting ready to get things set up for tomorrow.
