Paranoia

we open upon the new temporary house for the Clawthorne family in the human realm it has been the better part of a month now since y/n, Alastair, Eda and Lilith got to work on restoring it to at least a livable state.

y/n is overlooking the house to see the progress.

y/n: well at least it'll suit our needs for now.

the house was coming along nicely though the house needed all new roofing, lining, and pipes in addition to a sink and proper ventilation and a fridge and a new heater.

and now that y/n thought about it this house looked really old and by his estimations would be around Philips time and with that thought crossing his mind he hoped it was.

y/n: would serve you right you bastard trash our home we take yours.

y/n saw Alastair putting the new boards into place in the outer wall Lilith was installing the window awnings and Eda was cleaning the chimney with her one hand.

Eda losing her hand had affected y/n more than it did her y/n often felt guilty for not being able to protect her during that whole fiasco even though he knows there was nothing he could do to prevent that but that didn't assuage the guilt.

on a more positive note the kids were often helping them with the house making things a bit easier on the weary adults.

Eda had jumped down after doing her best to clean the chimney.

Eda: i did all i could on that end, what else do we need?

y/n shows her a list he made of what they needed, roofing, piping etc.

Eda: so those are the last things we need?

y/n: those are the last things we need to make this place livable.

Eda: i'll get Camila and you get the kids.

timeskip.

Camila had driven them to the local Menards where they were likely to find everything on the list.

as the adults looked for the required materials or other stuff the kids just looked around for anything that might be of interest to them.

with y/n.

he and Eda were looking for a fridge until a table caught Eda's eye.

Eda: man look at this nice size and a good price too.

y/n: shouldn't we be focusing on completing the list and besides that table is too big for the house.

Eda: i mean yea we should but after what we all went through we earned the right to indulge ourselves at least a little bit, besides we need a bigger one for poker night the one Camila used was way too small.

y/n: i am still surprised you convinced me to participate at all and even more so how the game went.

Eda: right? who would've guessed that Camila was a card shark.

y/n: and i was the first one to lose.

but then a question comes to Eda's mind one she may not have a better time to ask.

Eda: hey hon? are you ok? are you feeling alright.

y/n: you and i both know the answer to that Eda.

Eda: yea but i mean beyond the whole situation with Belos, the day of unity and King and what happened after.

y/n gives her a smile.

y/n: i'm fine honey really, now lets get done with this list.

Eda smiled as well but when y/n's back turned and started walking it faded she knew he was hiding something and wanted to push the issue but did not want to stress him out what with everything that happened.

with Luz.

Luz and friends were just browsing around the food section the Menards had Luz and Jack stood back not feeling hungry while the rest looked for something they could buy.

Jack: never thought you'd get a adopted sister did you?

Jack was referring to Vee who made herself a new look and got adopted by Camila and Luz loved that day.

Luz: yea but i'm glad it did.

Luz looked to Jack and he looked a bit down.

Luz: something eating you up mi amor?

Jack: it's just my dad i don't know what's causing it but he's getting paranoid right? i'm not the only one that sees this.

Luz had noticed this too and she had a fairly good idea what was causing it but never voiced it lest she assumed and made an ass of herself.

Luz: the very least he's looking very stressed i don't think he slept this whole week even and when he does its in that basement workshop of his, Eda's been venting to me how she misses him at night.

Jack: maybe it is just stress but he keeps looking over his shoulder everytime of everyday he brings all his guns he can hold on his person everywhere and he constantly shoots anything that flies getting close to the house.

Luz: i know your worried and i am too but we can't really do much beyond just support him in this difficult time.

Jack: i know but we could be doing that better if he just let us know when me and mom ask him he basically brushes it off and says it's nothing.

Luz: maybe he's just close to his limit is all, something y/n told me on a little nature walk we took together on the isles is that when it comes to the psyche and the body is that each have their limits and some come quicker and later than others but that while few break easily put enough pressure and all will break eventually.

Jack: so maybe this is all him being close to his limit?

Luz: i guess and all we can do is show him some support and help when we can.

Jack: i just feel like i can do more and could've done more.

and that is something Luz understands greatly.

the adults had found all they needed on the list and after they install them the house could be called a proper house.

y/n and Eda had just gotten it loaded into the car when Luz started to walk to the car only to bump into someone.

???: watch where your going will ya and do not touch the suit.

Luz: sorry sir.

as Luz walked to the car she got a good look at the man she bumped into.

the man was about y/n's stature put paler with dark red hair and an expensive suit with red white, black and gold and was without a tie, the suit looked to be European made.

Luz already found the man distasteful but that only amplified when she saw him checking himself out in a handheld mirror.

Luz: ugh a narcissist with a flair for fashion that type i only tolerate on tv shows.

and with that Luz got into the car.

the man however looked back at the car and saw y/n as it backed out of the parking lot and drove away.

the man took out a phone and dialed a number.

???: oh herr doctor i think i found your escaped test subject.

dr. Ryker: really where is he?

???: oh don't worry we have the time we need to discuss this fully i'll meet you in the lab tonight and always a pleasure to talk Ryker.

dr. Ryker: same to you agent Knockout.
