*** Yashoda ***

"Alright, quiz time," the general said after explaining all the rules that those in charge of a community should follow, including leave policies, transfer of responsibilities, records to keep track of, among other things.

"If it's a planned leave, how many days earlier should a president of a community submit the required paperwork?" he asked.

"One week," Shanthi replied.

"Good," he said and turned towards me. "What about if it's an unplanned leave?"

"As soon as possible, and a written letter would suffice if it is a true emergency," I replied.

"Good," he smiled proudly. "You ladies are catching up."

"Now for the next question," he said, looking back at his papers, and I sighed in exhaustion.

We've been learning this for two hours with no breaks!

Madhava, please save me from this stupid Kheera!

KNOCK KNOCK

My eyes lit up with relief at the sound of the knocks.

God truly heard my prayers.

"Come in," the general said, and Kishore walked in.

"The Snake—" he paused and corrected himself upon seeing me, "The highly honored, respected, and well-renowned head intellectual, Vishnu sir, is here to see you, sir."

"Gods really hate me, huh?" the general whispered to himself.

"Seeing my brother is a blessing," I said, offended. "You can disregard him all you want, but people are dying to see him."

"Quite literally, I'm sure," he countered. "As thrilling as it might be to view a snake up close, it still bites and kills you."

I angrily glared at him, but he pretended to not notice and quickly turned to the soldier. "Send him in," he said.

The soldier looked down, hiding his smile—perhaps out of respect for me—before nodding and leaving the room. Within seconds, Vishnu anna stepped in.

"Seeing you is the worst part of my day," he started as he stepped in but paused upon noticing me.

"Oh dear, Yashoda, how blessed am I to see you?" he asked, his frustration immediately replaced with a smile.

"Not more blessed than me, anna," I smiled back. "Seeing you always makes my day."

"Worse?" Kheera asked. Both my anna and I glared at him.

"I was just curious, that's all," he added, pretending to be innocent.

Vishnu anna shook his head, unbothered by the comment.

"You look tired, Yashoda. Everything okay?" he asked.

"We've been here for two hours now, anna," I said sadly.

"For what?" he asked, his anger rising. "Don't tell me you're investigating my sister again, Kheera?" He turned towards my husband with clear irritation. "This time, I am certainly going to—"

"Stop hissing, snake," my husband cut him off. "I was just teaching her and Shanthi about the rules of running a community."

"Why do they need to know the rules?" he asked, annoyed. "You already put Pritham in charge. Why are you still bothering Ms. Shanthi and my sister?"
