*** Randheera ***
"My love," I called to my wife as I gently tried to wake her, my fingers running through her soft hair. "I think it's time for you to wake up."
"Don't think," she whispered, still half-asleep. I couldn't help but chuckle.
"I wouldn't," I answered honestly. "But if you wake up late, you'll skip breakfast, and I don't want that. Not to mention, the dosas won't be crisp."
She slowly opened her eyes, looking at me with a sleepy smile.
"Sometimes, I see you and wonder," she mumbled, her gaze still drowsy but full of love. "Is this just a dream, or am I really this fortunate?"
"Not a dream, I promise," I said, pressing a kiss to her forehead before standing up and offering my hand to help her.
She took it gracefully, her long, loose hair cascading down her back as she sat up.
"Freshen up and eat quickly. You can go back to sleep if you need to," I said as I turned to leave for work, only to stop and glance back.
"I think you should give me back my shirt," I said, pointing at the one she had claimed as her nightwear—soft, comfortable, and clearly her favorite.
"It's mine now," she said, hugging herself to keep it close.
"That's not how it works, does it?" I teased, taking a step toward her. "I don't give things out for free."
"I can wear a green saree tomorrow to compensate," she offered innocently.
"Not tomorrow. Today," I countered.
"It's in the wash," she protested, sounding offended.
"Then buy a new one," I said as if it were the most obvious solution. "Didn't we have this discussion before, sweetheart? You need to have more than one—"
"I don't need more than one saree in the same color and pattern, Kheera, and you can't be mad at me for that," she interrupted, her voice sharp with irritation.
I blinked, taken aback.
"I..." She immediately backtracked. "Was that... rude?"
"Well... yes," I admitted as my hand moved toward my diary on the dressing table, a suspicion forming in my mind.
"I'm sorry," she said quickly, her demeanor shifting. "I didn't mean to snap... I just..."
"Yeah, that's..." I trailed off as I flipped through the pages and glanced over her shoulder.
I was right. Her period would start today, most likely in the afternoon.
"Alright," I completed my sentence, closing the diary. "Happens sometimes... it's completely alright."
"Really?" she asked, looking up at me with innocent guilt. "But you're in uniform, I called you Kheera, and I—"
"It's fine," I reassured her, cupping her face in my hands. "Absolutely fine. Now, freshen up, eat, and rest well, okay?"
She nodded, still embarrassed about her outburst.
"I love you, and I'll see you for lunch," I said, kissing her forehead before making my way out.
