*** Yashoda ***
"Tea," I said as I placed the cup in front of him while he was getting ready in front of the mirror—in his separate room, not ours.
He looked at the tea and then went back to getting ready, not even acknowledging it.
"Were you that angry yesterday?" I asked. "That you didn't even want to come to our room to sleep?"
He shook his head.
"Had it been anger, I would've come to our room," he said, putting on his badges. "Yelled at you and fought with you to show my anger. But the love overpowered it, so I stayed back—to protect your peace."
My heart fluttered when I heard those words. It took me a moment to regain my composure.
I need to win Dheeru back...
"I even stayed up late, you know," I said honestly. "Hoping that my Bapu's words would come true and the General would come to imprison me."
He turned to me when he heard that, paused for a moment—lost in admiration when he noticed I was wearing a green saree—but quickly looked away.
"Not scared of the sweet, charming women of prison anymore, huh?" he asked, getting back to admiring himself in the mirror and combing his hair.
"You said they were in either for lying or robbery," I replied. "They wouldn't have to rob anything from me—I would give it to them myself. And I don't mind being lied to... at least they would talk to me. Unlike the sweet, charming man of the house."
He paused at that and put down the comb.
"Yashu, if you want to fight, fight," he said, pointing a finger like a little child. "Don't confuse me with these sweet words."
"But I don't want to fight," I replied, as if that were obvious.
"Well, I want to," he stated. "You insulted me, the King, and the values of the state. That cannot go without a fight."
"For how long?" I asked.
"Three days," he stated. "No, five... seven... no, no—five. Five days," he concluded.
"I don't want to fight with you for that long," I said. "Make it two."
"I get to decide that," he said, turning around. "Don't talk to me unless it's something official."
Saying that, he was about to storm off—but I stopped him.
"I told you to not—"
"It's for official matters, General Sir," I interrupted.
"Then get an appointment, Mrs. Yashoda Randheera Chowdary," he replied, locking eyes with mine. "Official matters cannot be discussed impromptu."
"Your soldiers stop you in the hallway all the time to discuss official matters," I argued.
"They also run around the Crown's home a hundred times if I command them to. Will you?" he shot back.
"Sure," I replied. "But just like your soldiers, do I also get a bottle of alcohol and a room in your house to drink without my husband being aware of it?"
He rolled his eyes and sighed.
"Fine. What do you want?" he said, giving up.
"Brindavanam community is planning a katcheri in the events hall beside Lord Madhava's temple, followed by a pooja inside the temple," I replied.
