***Jagannath***
“Bapu, why don’t you go and relax with the rest in the hall?” Yashu asked, noticing that I’d been with her in the kitchen for more than an hour now. I had been pretending that I wanted to watch my little daughter cook—which is adorable—but the truth is, the trauma given by her cuttlefish husband scares me.
I’ve been sitting here ever since I came in to put the cup back and didn’t dare go back out—not even a look or a peep. I stayed hidden under the protection of my daughter.
Another hour passed, and I noticed the King slowly stepping into the kitchen.
“Greetings, Bhabhisa. Has Dheera had tea?” he asked.
“He did, Deversa,” my daughter replied with a smile. “Let me quickly make one for you.”
“No, no, Bhabhisa,” the King replied, glancing out cautiously—probably to ensure the General wasn’t around—before slowly stepping closer and whispering.
I also took a step forward, out of curiosity.
“I wanted to take the tea to him myself,” he whispered, “so I can catch him in a good mood and ask if I can go out.”
“Tea barely puts him in a good mood, Deversa,” Yashu whispered back. “There’s a Northern snack, Vangyachi Kaapa, that he really likes. I’m planning to make that today—use it.”
The King smiled.
“Thank you, Bhabhisa. You are the best.”
“But not too much,” Yashu added. “I need him in a good mood too—we have a fight scheduled tonight.”
Scheduled fight!?!? What!?
“I was bold and told him I’m ready then,” she continued, “but in retrospect, I’m not—and I’m scared.”
Scared!? Does my son-in-law not treat my daughter well? My wife says he does… If he doesn’t... Lord Madhava, please save her…allow me to bear his wrath....
“What time is the fight scheduled, Bhabhisa?” the King asked—without even a hint of surprise.
So scheduling fights is normal now? I thought Southern insanity was traumatizing, but my son-in-law just proved me wrong—by introducing Scheduled Southern Insanity.
“After your meeting,” Yashu replied.
Yashu, my sweet child… How are you finding this conversation normal!?!?
“Oh,” the King whispered, “then don’t worry about it, Bhabhisa. I’ll extend the meeting and exhaust him enough so he won’t want to fight anymore.”
Quick question… is it legal to plot against the General like this? What will happen if he finds out…
“We need to be very careful, Bhabhisa,” the King added, “Dheera cannot find out about this. If he does… he’ll imprison me, not make jelebis for you, and raise his sword at your father.”
Waiit… WAIIT… how did the King just answer my question? Can he read minds? Did he hear everything I said about the Southerners? Am I going to die? Hold on—there’s something more important to address here—and my daughter got to it before me...
“Why would he raise a sword at my father?” she asked, concerned. “He has nothing to do with this plan.”
“Well, he was courageous enough to join the whispers when Pritham and Vishnu didn’t,” the King replied.
