⚠️ Long chapter ahead ⚠️
Tejas knocked on our door, and I smiled sheepishly at him as I bolted out of the bathroom and went inside the kitchen. I didn't want him to see the dress I was holding in my hands because I wanted to suprise him, but I knew he already caught a glance of it thanks to my bad timing.
My parents welcomed him, and Mom told me to stop trying to hide behind the fridge.
"Should I wear this?" I asked her nervously. "I shouldn't have bought it. It is too much, isn't it?"
Mom checked the dress and twisted her lips.
"Bhoomi, I don't get why you will wear this, but I am trying to change my perspective. We won't know unless we try. Instead of worrying about how it will look, just wear it," she said.
Nowadays, my mother's behaviour made me feel like I was talking to a completely different person. She no longer fussed about the smallest of stuff, and even if we were still working hard to run our family smoothly, there was a satisfaction in her voice and actions. She seemed at peace with everything.
I wore the dress, and her eyes widened. I thought she didn't like it, but she did the action of removing any evil eye on me.
"Bhoomi, you look so cute," she said. "You know what? Wear whatever you want. You are my daughter; tell me if anyone taunts you. Me and your dad will handle it."
"Wow, Mom, you have changed a lot," I teased her.
"Stop teasing me and go and see what Tejas needs. He is waiting for so long," she said, and I hugged her.
"I love you, Maa."
"I love you too, beta. Now go and take these snacks with you. I will prepare breakfast," she said.
I took the tray of tea and snacks and gave them to my father and Tejas. Dad stared at me for some time, and I stood nervously to check his reaction, but he glanced at Tejas and then again at me.
"Is this what you will be wearing?" Dad asked me.
"Yes. You don't think it is appropriate? I will change it if you want."
He pursed his lips and looked at Tejas.
"Beta, I am not underestimating my daughter, but please ask for help if you need it," he told Tejas. "I apologize in advance for my daughter's behaviour."
Tejas laughed at Dad's reaction to my dress. He told Dad that he should relax and leave my responsibility to him. Dad's face glowed after hearing that. Meanwhile, I kept admiring my boyfriend.
"Bhoomi, why haven't you done your hair yet?" Mom yelled after coming from the kitchen.
She helped me do my hairstyle, and I saw Tejas look at me in amusement, while Dad shook his head at me in disappointment, though he was smiling himself too.
After twenty minutes, I was done. We had breakfast, and after I got my belongings, Tejas and I took our leave. On our way to his car, he kept staring at me with a sweet expression. He moved his hand towards me, but everything around me turned upside down, and I seemed to be getting away from my boyfriend without my will.
Am I flying?
"What the hell are you wearing, Bhoomi?" Rehman's voice pierced my eardrums.
He was on my left side, and when I noticed Yasir on my right side, with Akshay and Shlok behind them respectively, I finally realised what was going on. They had picked me up like a stretcher and were running away while laughing.
