"Vyomi, did you get a gift from Axel?" I asked my son.
He giggled. "No."
"Then, did your Dad got you more toys?"
"No, Mumma."
I kept asking him more doubts, but his answer remained the same. I looked at others in defeat.
"You guys at least tell me what happened. My curiosity is killing me," I said. "Tejas, did you get him his favourite toy car again?"
He shook his head. "No, we directly came here from his Nana Nani's (maternal grandparents) house."
I sighed and looked at Vyom again. He was very excited, so I cupped his face and asked him again.
"Baby, tell mumma, no?" I requested.
He beamed like a star. "Mumma, I am going to be a big brother!"
"Oh, really? Congratulations, Vyomi. You should have just- wait, what did you say just now?!"
He placed his tiny palms on my cheek and moved his face closer; his nose touched mine.
"Mumma, I am going to be a big brother," he whispered.
The realisation hit me, and I enclosed him in my arms. I glanced at Tejas, and he breathed in relief. He hugged us, confirming what our son had declared.
"Your reaction was priceless," Tejas teased me. "No one will say that you have heard that news before also."
I whined. "You all always pull my leg like this. How would I know I am pregnant?"
Axel laughed. "Small Bean, who will know then?"
"I mean I didn't get any symptoms like the first time," I stated my point.
Tejas, my sister, and Ritvik bhaiyya agreed. They congratulated me, Dhara Di advising me to be careful now instead of playing around.
Axel wasn't there when Vyom was born, so he was really happy that this time, he was going to be present for Vyom's sibling's birth. He came forward and lightly hugged me.
"I really can't believe that you are a mother," he teased.
Before I could reply, Vyom pointed at himself and said, "She is my mumma!"
Everyone laughed, but suddenly, I felt my throat burning. I instantly moved my palm to place on my mouth, but it was too late. Faster than a blink, my mouth opened, and I threw up.
"Small Bean!" Axel shrieked as he got covered in my partially digested lunch.
Tejas grabbed the water bottle and wiped my mouth. Meanwhile, Axel was staring at me blankly.
"Sorry, Axel," I apologized. "Now you believe that I am a mother?"
He took deep breaths, and Dhara Di told him to take a shower. He shook his head at me.
"You never leave a chance to take revenge," he complained, whining that his new costume got ruined.
Ritvik bhaiyya consoled him that his costume will be okay after the wash, and if he wanted a new one, he will get one. Axel refused.
"I will wear this one only after washing it," he said. "It will always remind me that I have an idiot best friend."
Everyone started laughing, Vyom giggling the most. Axel smiled at little Jaiswal and went to take a shower, scolding me to not vomit on him again in case I was planning to prank him.
My husband told me that we needed to go to the hospital to get a proper checkup done as the doctor who had checked me before I woke up was doubtful about my pulse. I agreed, and the three of us left after bidding others goodbye.
