Opposite Ends (Draco Malfoy)

Upon exiting the Room of Requirement, everyone collided like dominoes with the wall in the corridor beyond. The door to the Room of Requirement had vanished as everybody hit the floor. Draco & Evangeline were coughing and gasping for air. Harry, Hermione, and Ron weren't as affected by the smoke since they weren't as deep in it for as long, but they sat there, panting on the floor beside Goyle, who was still unconscious along with Blaise & Mattheo.

"C-Crabbe" choked Draco as soon as he could speak.

"He's dead." Ron said harshly.

A number of huge bangs shook the castle.

The twins staggered to their feet as more screams echoed throughout the castle. Panic flared within Eva. She could feel her body still shaking and her heart racing.

Harry takes out the already destroyed diadem.

Hermione cries, "It must have been fiendfyre!"

"Sorry?" replied Harry.

"Fiendfyre -- cursed fire -- it's one of the substances that destroys Horcruxes, but I would never, ever have dared to use it, it's so dangerous. How did Crabbe know how to --?

"Must've learned it from the Carrows, " Harry said grimly.

Ron huffed. "Shame he wasn't concentrating when they mentioned how to stop it, really. If he hadn't tried to kill us all, I'd be quite sorry he was dead."

Evangeline saw Malfoy glare at Ron for his comment. She took a couple steps toward him, so that she was standing above the guy. "Get out of here."

He looks up at her, puzzled, "What?"

"Go. Go run and hide or find something to do for your precious Dark Lord."

"Eva-"

At this point, Harry, Hermione, and Ron were watching the scene unfold.

"You're a coward." She interrupted him, "I don't want to see you."

Draco gets to his feet. Now he's the one standing above Eva. "I can't just stand here and watch you do Dumbledore's dirty work just to then be sacrificed."

Harry bellows, "How dare you say his name!"

Eva retorts at her brother, "Shut up Harry!" She turns back to Draco, "We can't change the ending. I'm sorry."
