They were all interrupted by death eaters and members of Dumbledore's Army crashing through the corridors in a duel. Eva, Harry, Ron, and Hermione didn't hesitate to join the duel, seeing it were a few Weasley siblings fighting.
Draco got away.
He tried to get Evangeline to stay away from him, last year, but she was too stubborn. She was way too keen on being 'there for him.'
Now, here he is, according to her words, a coward, for wanting to do what it takes to keep her alive.
She didn't want that from him though. She's so willing to sacrifice herself for the world in order to save it, but Draco wants to sacrifice the world in order to save her.
No girl, no person, had ever been so adamant on being by his side. He liked that. Everyone else had allowed him to push them away, but she's the one who fought it. She provided him with a safe space to be himself, to show his true colors, and now, he just has to let that go? How is that any fair? He felt more than just defeated.
Evangeline lacked overall magical experience, but she threw every curse she could think of in the direction of the other masked death eaters.
The air exploded. Eva felt herself flying through the air and all she could do was hold her wand as tightly as possible, it being her only means of defense. She hit the floor hard, now covered in rubble of the newly destroyed corridor.
"No—no—no!" Someone yelled, "No! Fred! No!"
She struggled to her feet from under the wreckage to see Percy Weasley shaking Fred's lifeless body. Ron kneeled beside them and a wave of immense guilt ran over Eva.
It should've been me.
