The sun had fully risen and the battle finally ended. Relief had washed over a majority of those who fought, including some death eaters. Tears fell from many faces. Some happy that they had won and that the war was now over; while others sobbed from the loss of loved ones.
Evangeline stood at the edge of Hogwarts alone. Many staring at her, wondering what went through her mind.
She gazed at the castle that was no longer in its grand, imposing architecture. The sharp, cold wind tugged at her clothes that were covered in dust, dirt, and some blood.
Harry, Ron, and Hermione stood on the bridge, watching her in her dazed state.
"Eva!" Called Harry.
She slowly turned around, and dragged herself over to them. Her body was exhausted. Harry quickly embraced her, which Ron and Hermione ended up joining in for a group hug. Eva sighed.
Draco watched the interaction from afar, feeling a pang of jealousy in his chest. He longed to have close friendships like Harry Potter.
As they ended the group hug, Malfoy approached Evangeline. She heard his footsteps on the stone pathway and turned around quickly. He didn't bear his usual arrogant demeanor. Something changed, deep inside him, and it was visible to everyone around. "Eva—"
The Golden Trio remained silent, wanting to observe the scene unfold.
"—I'm sorry."
She furrowed her brows at him. She no longer held any anger or frustration in her heart. She just felt lost. Not knowing what to do now, for her plan was to die young.
"I was a git. I didn't want to loose you." He couldn't believe what he was admitting in front of Eva's brother, but it didn't matter anymore, he just wanted her, "How are you...still alive?"
"I guess Voldemort had destroyed the Horcrux in me instead of actually killing me." She explained.
He sighed. He was so incredibly glad that she survived, but he didn't know what to say to make things better between them. "I shouldn't have tried to stop you or your brother. I—"
"It's okay, Draco." She cut him off. She couldn't handle it anymore. She hugged him, wrapping her arms around his body as he slowly returns the hug.
Ron says to Harry, "You owe me ten galleons."
"What?" Exclaimed Hermione.
"We made a bet. Ten galleons if it's true that his sister and Malfoy are a thing."
Hermione gives Ron a 'I-cannot-believe-you-right-now' sort of look.
"What?!" The red head puts his hands up in defense, "You can't tell me that you didn't suspect anything either."
Harry rolls his eyes as Eva lets go from the embrace and shoots Ron a weird look.
Draco holds onto Eva's hand, not wanting to let her go. "Eva—"
He was interrupted by his father and mother approaching the five teens. "Draco. What the hell are you doing?!" Lucius looks at his son, then Eva, then at their hands touching. "Were my instructions not clear that you are to be nothing with this girl?! Or any girl who isn't of pureblood descent?"
"I don't care." Malfoy argued.
Everyone listening was taken aback, but specifically Lucius was very offended.
"Blood status means nothing." Draco repeated Eva's words confidently and she gave his hand a little squeeze.
Everyone was surprised to hear Malfoy say that.
Harry glared at Malfoy, not quite happy about the fact he had a thing for his sister, but she was happy. Eva deserved to be happy. Regardless if Harry believed she could do 1000x better, he gave her an approving smile.
The End.
