"What am I looking at right now?"
"Your new bed."
"Why did you have to buy me a new one? I don't need a huge bed, dude. And where's yours?"
"We'll share this one."
"Says who?"
"Says the lone queen-size bed in our dorm."
"Kim Mingyu." Wonwoo sighs, drained. It hasn't even been a month since they became dormmates, and it already feels like Mingyu has made it his personal mission to make Wonwoo's life a living hell. (From Wonwoo's perspective, of course.)
Change isn't something Wonwoo likes. Especially the kind that's unpredictable and completely out of his control. Unfortunately, both of those words perfectly describe his new roommate: Kim Mingyu, the college jock and heartthrob.
How did they end up as dormmates?
Mingyu says it was fate.
Wonwoo says it was karma. He must have done something truly awful in a past life to deserve sharing a space with Kim Mingyu.
"Yes, Jeon Wonwoo?"
Punching Mingyu in the face wouldn't just get Wonwoo in trouble—it would probably hurt his own fist more than anything. But seriously, what is he supposed to do when the urge to strangle the guy grows stronger every day?
It started with the little things.
Mingyu being overly hyper. Always talking like his mouth would shrivel up and fall off if he didn't yap every sixty seconds.
Then there's the clinginess. Wonwoo has told him, multiple times, that he hates physical affection. And yet, every time, Mingyu just takes all of Wonwoo's shoves—and even his punches—like it's nothing. That infuriating smile never leaves his face, even when he's already on the floor, clutching his stomach after a well-aimed fist.
Then, lastly, there's the way he speaks. Mingyu has this habit of calling his friends pet names—names Wonwoo would really rather have nothing to do with. He's heard Mingyu call people sunshine, cutie, pookie... yet somehow, he gets the worst name of all.
"What's got you thinking, baby?"
"Please, Mingyu, for the millionth time—stop calling me that. I might actually barf at this rate."
Mingyu just stands there proudly, arms crossed over his chest, watching as his roommate walks to the edge of the bed and sits down with a sigh.
"Do you really hate it that much?" Mingyu teases Wonwoo a lot—but of course, he never means it to the point where Wonwoo would genuinely start to hate him. He's only kept it up this long because he's convinced Wonwoo's not really mad.
Or at least... that's what he tells himself.
"I mean, hate is a strong word," Wonwoo mutters, "but I'd definitely prefer to sleep alone. Why on earth didn't you ask me first?"
"Because I knew you wouldn't agree."
Not surprised by Mingyu's answer, Wonwoo just nods, giving in—yet again—to Mingyu's wishes. Hate really is too harsh of a word. He's never truly hated anyone, not even someone as persistent and downright annoying as Mingyu is being.
That's just the kind of person Wonwoo is.
A doormat, he thinks sometimes.
"Damn it... I really have to switch rooms at this point," Wonwoo mumbles, not actually meaning to say it out loud.
