"Babe, are you in here?" Mingyu called out, as he pushed open the door. He peeked in, his gaze immediately landing on Wonwoo, who was lying stretched out on the bed.
"She's not here." Wonwoo replied simply, his voice low and indifferent as he lay sprawled across the bed. His body was half-naked, his shirt discarded somewhere nearby, revealing toned muscles that caught Mingyu's attention in a way he hadn't expected.
"Sorry, I didn't realize I was already walking into your room," Mingyu stammered, quickly prying his eyes away from Wonwoo's exposed torso. His heart was beating a little too fast, and he could feel his face flushing. He tried his best to mask the awkwardness, but his nervous energy was palpable.
Wonwoo sits up, unaware of Mingyu's little plight. "No need to say sorry. Does she know you're visiting?"
Mingyu hesitates. "I texted her but she hasn't been reading my texts."
"Hmmm. You seem like a nice guy, so you deserve to know this." Wonwoo stands up from the bed and walks closer to Mingyu with a serious look on his face. "Though, you didn't hear this from me, okay?" Wonwoo added, his voice lowering as if he was sharing something deeply personal, a piece of information he wasn't supposed to reveal. The hint of warning in his tone made Mingyu's curiosity spike even further.
Mingyu nods.
"I saw her making out with some other dude at the back of the school." Wonwoo paused, his words hanging in the air like a weight. "Do what you want with that information." Wonwoo sat back down on the bed. He leaned back, his arms resting casually on the mattress as he studied Mingyu's face, waiting for any sign of a reaction.
Mingyu simply looks down on his feet and avoids Wonwoo's intense gaze. "Tha...thanks for telling me Wonwoo sunbaenim."
"Huh? That's it? Aren't you angry or something?" Wonwoo's voice carried a note of disbelief as he watched Mingyu, still standing there, unblinking and oddly calm. "My sister's been cheating on you, don't you feel anything about that?"
Mingyu's lack of reaction caught him off guard. In a situation like this, anyone would have exploded with anger, stormed out to confront the betrayer, or at the very least, ranted on social media for the world to see. But Mingyu was still, almost too still.
"I always knew she was out of my league. She just went along with dating me since she's kind enough to do that for me."
Wonwoo scoffed, a laugh slipping past his lips, and Mingyu couldn't help but think it sounded almost...pretty. The kind of laugh that held a hint of bitterness, but something else too—something he couldn't quite pinpoint.
"Dude, she's far from kind. She's just using you for her grades." Wonwoo's words cut through the air with an unexpected sharpness.
Mingyu recalls that they've started dating from that time they became partners for a project. With most of the load, Mingyu did all alone.
"I can't blame her for cheating on me since I'm boring too. She deserves someone better."
Wonwoo felt frustrated for the boy. Internally cursing his sister for fumbling a decent guy and choosing some airhead instead of this one right here. "Goodness, what are you a martyr? You shouldn't be this stupid."
"It happens."
"You don't look that disappointed, do you even like my sister?"
Mingyu was shocked, standing frozen in place. His mind raced as he searched deep within himself in those quick seconds, grappling with the storm of emotions swirling inside. Doubt lingered at the edges of his thoughts, uncertainty clouding his every instinct. Are my feelings for her even strong enough? Why don't I feel sad at all that she's cheating on me? "I..I do." he still answers amidst his internal dilemma.
