"Happy birthday, my sweetheart." Niall kissed me the moment the clock hit midnight. We were cuddled together on the couch, watching some random show on the tv.
"Thank you, my gentleman." I smiled, returning the kiss.
It is now July 6th. My 26th birthday.
It also means that it has been exactly one year since I stepped in Everton F.C's offices for the first time. A whole year. It doesn't seem like that much in my mind, honestly. It has flown by.
It is the second consecutive birthday that I spend away from home. In a different country. But my parents still made sure to be the first ones to call and wish me a happy birthday.
In the morning, Niall woke up earlier than usual, without me noticing. I found out because when I woke up and walked downstairs, my favorite breakfast was already on the table, next to a bouquet of flowers.
"I thought you weren't the kind to make birthdays so big of a deal." I smiled softly at him.
"I can change habits for the person I love, y'know. Your birthday is important. And back on my birthday I said we would celebrate your next one, didn't I?" He smiled back.
I remembered that. I remembered telling him my birthday had been the day before I arrived in Liverpool, even if I lied and it actually was the day I arrived. He felt bad that he hadn't known anyways, and said we would celebrate the next one.
Oh, how much has changed since then.
We sat to have breakfast together, and I really enjoyed it. Like I enjoy every little thing Niall and I do together.
"I have one more thing." He said when we were finishing breakfast.
"You do?" I asked, curious.
"Mhm." He nodded, and stood up. He quickly went upstairs, came back with two little jewelry boxes, and sat back on his chair. "Open this one." He gave me one of them.
"Okay." I nodded, and opened it, revealing a thin golden necklace with a little "V" charm. "Oh, Niall, you didn't have to." I said, my voice full of thankfulness.
"Oh, I wanted to, don't worry." He chuckled. "I got us matching necklaces." He said excitedly, opening the other box, which contained the same necklace but with an "N" instead.
"Oh, I love that." I said honestly, when suddenly a thought came to my head. "Why don't we swap them? Like, I wear your initial and you wear mine. What do you think?" I asked.
A smile formed on his lips at that. "That's even better." He said happily, clearly liking the idea, his eyes shining like a little kids' at Christmas.
He stood up, and placed the thin chain with his initial around my neck, and I did the same, placing my initial around his.
