I stand at my sink, looking in the mirror. Two boxes of red hair dye stand on the counter beside me.
Is this stupid?
They were an impulsive buy, if I'm being honest. I picked up the first box and turned the water on. I didn't know how Kirishima stuck his hair up. Maybe I could ask him.
I shut the water back off.
No. This was stupid. I mean, c'mon. How obvious could I be? I put the box dye back down angrily. I can't just try to look exactly like him. That was stupid.
I liked Kirishima. I could finally admit that to myself. It brought a rush of blood to my face every time and I would never, ever admit it to anybody. But I guess I could admit it to myself.
I glanced at the dye again.
No. Stupid. Stupid, stupid, stupid. I opened the wall cabinet and shoved both of them in. There.
Every student who had gone to the meeting with all the pro heroes would be helping with the rescue. Us students from class A would have a minimal part, Aizawa assured us, but we were still going to help. And really, what mission this big ever went as planned? I had a bad feeling that our "minimal part" wouldn't be so minimal.
Aizawa had briefly given me, Kirishima, Uraraka, and Tsu the decision to back out. None of us did. We had to help poor, little Eri.
We gathered in a square near the hideout where the Shie Hassaikai was keeping Eri. Nighteye had run into one of the gang's members and used his quirk Foresight on him to see where Eri was.
The police were here too. They handed out small packets that contained the known members of the Hassaikai and their quirks.
It was still early in the morning. All the students from UA, including the Big Three, gathered together.
"I'm so nervous," Uraraka said.
"First investigative work and now working with the police?" Tsu added. "There's so much I don't know."
"Right? It's so official." That was Nejire, the final member of the Big Three. She had her work study with the same pro as Uraraka and Tsu.
I watched the pros. It was like I was seeing them in a new light. I didn't have to hate them anymore. Not for the simple reason of them just working as pro heroes. They were... they were people. The trees looked greener.
"The pros seem so calm," Kirishima said. "They're so brave!"
I took a breath. My first reaction was still to dismiss him saying that. A few days ago, I wouldn't be able to admit that any pro hero was brave. Just selfish, I would have said. Now though...
"Yeah," I said quietly.
He took my quietness for something else. "Don't worry, Ears, we're all gonna do great!" He grinned at me.
I had to turn away. I could feel my face heating up. "Good luck," I managed.
The head policeman here called all of us heroes and students over. He gave us a safety talk about exactly what we'd be doing and what to do if there was any danger or fighting. We'd have to be careful, but the pro had planned long and well. We'd begin at 8:30.
Kirishima, or Red Riot, Suneater, and I stood with Fat Gum, a wall of police, and several other heroes at the front door. The police had to show the warrant first before we could go in. Once they did, we'd have begun.
The head policeman approached the front door and reached up to ring the doorbell.
The front door exploded outwards. A huge man, and I mean huge, burst out of the building. He was probably nearly double All Might's height. He had on a black plague doctor's mask. Several of the first row of police were thrown back. Aiz- Eraserhead took care of them.
The guy's arm swelled as he pulled it back. Ryuku stepped forward. The guy punched. A large wave of wind came with it. Amazing how strong he was. Rsuku took his punch through, blocking it with her hand, now in dragon form.
"The Ryuku agency will take care of this villain," she shouted out. To emphasize, she shoved the villain down into the ground, stepping on him.
"C'mon, everyone," Fat Gum shouted. We followed him and the police inside to the courtyard of the hideout. There were a few Hassaiki members here. They were taken care of quickly. More appeared though, and the bulk of the police and some of the lower-level heroes stayed to take care of them.
I ran behind Kirishima towards the front door of the actual building. We barged inside. There was a last line of henchmen, which the police engaged, then the members of Fat Gum and Nighteye's agencies, Eraserhead and a couple of other heroes were running down the hallway.
Nighteye stopped us at a plant decoration in a little cubby. There was some sort of secret door. Nighteye got it open. Three goons jumped through, attacking. Kirishima jumped forward, but before he could do anything useful, Nighteye's two sidekicks took the goons down.
"Go!" one of them said.
There were stairs down. The tunnels beneath the hideout were much more functional. They were all lined with cement and metal plating, with lots of wires and pipes. There was a huge cement wall not too far down. There were no other paths.
"So much for your foresight," the problematic hero said.
"I'll go check," Mirio said. He ran ahead and stuck his head through the wall. It looked a little funny. He pulled his face back out of the cement. "The hallway continues," he called back. "This wall is the only thing blocking it."
"This guy's an idiot if he thinks this dumb wall will stop us," Kirishima said. He ran forward, hardening his arm. Midoriya charged too. Together, they destroyed the wall in a second.
"Let's go," Mirio ran through, leading the group.
We were quiet as we ran. That's why we could hear the villain so well when he appeared. The hallways started shaking. Like we were inside some sort of animal. We could hear the villain screaming too. It echoed around us, way too loud to be normal.
"This looks like one of the gang's quirks," the head policeman shouted. Very helpfully.
"He's not supposed to be this powerful," the problematic hero shouted back. I really didn't know his name. I might have heard it earlier though. Lock Lock or something?
"Remember who we're dealing with," Fat Gum called. "Dollars to donuts, he's using a performance inhancer here."
Mirio charged ahead. Midoriya and Nighteye called after him.
"Speed is what matters right now," Mirio shouted back. "They're stalling for time. I'm going on ahead." Mirio disappeared through a wall before anyone could do anything else. Not that they would. Mirio was right.
Then the ground opened up. It had been writhing and moving just a second ago, then there was nothing under me but darkness. We all fell. Into the dark.
