It was a few days, nearly a week, before we called into our work study again. Kirishima and I met in the common area, both in our school uniforms.
"Let's go?" Kirishima asked. He hadn't been acting any different since that one night. It was a little frustrating honestly. He was just so...normal.
"I'm ready."
We walked through the large front doors before Midoriya followed out after us.
"Heading to your work study?" Kirishima asked.
"Yeah. It's weird they had us wear our uniforms, isn't it?"
"Hey guys," Uraraka and Tsu called. "Are we all heading to our work study?"
"Sure are," Kirishima called back, waving. "It's been nearly a week since we were last called in."
We were all heading the same place. That was strange. At the same time too. We came across other heroes going to the same place as well. Kirishima and I were meeting Fat Gum someplace different. We took the same train as Midoriya and the others.
We were supposed to all meet at an office building. When we got there, the Big Three were all waiting outside.
"What's going on?" I asked Kirishima. "Even the Big Three are here."
Kirishima just shrugged.
Inside, there were a ton of pro heroes. Ryuku was there, and Fat Gum of course, along with several I didn't recognize. And Aizawa was there.
I felt uneasy, being surrounded by so many pros. Kirishima wasn't though. He greeted several of them by name.
Nighteye's agency, the one Midoriya had been working with, had been investigating a group called the Shie Hassaikai, who were a sort of Yakuza gang. They had made contact with the League of Villains but fought for some reason.
Around this time, one of the pro heroes interrupted. "Why are there high school students here? I don't care if they are from UA, they're kids."
"Hey," Fat Gum stood up, "these three have important information to pass along!"
Kirishima, Tamaki, and I looked up at him. Kirishima and I exchanged glances.
"Uh, we do?" he asked.
"These students have proved that they can take down villains. Plus, Ears here was shot with a bullet that stole her quirk."
Right, I have to work on that hero name.
"Stole her quirk!"
"I've never heard of anything like that."
"L/n, you're okay right?" Uraraka asked.
That was a lot of attention from a lot of people I didn't know. I really wished we could get away from all these pro heroes. "Yeah, the stuff wore off when I slept."
"Good to know the effects aren't permanent," the pro who had had problems with students being here said.
"But we found out that nothing but her quirk was harmed at all," Fat Gum said. He was still standing. "Her quirk genes were damaged, unlike Eraserhead's quirk, which just blocks them. The shooter clammed up and the round Ears was shot with is totally spent. But Kirishima took another bullet that just bounced off him. We've got a viable sample!"
Kirishima paused. "Woah, I did that? That's crazy."
I watched him. Did he have any idea what was going on?
"When we analyzed the bullet. We found human blood inside and traces of human cells."
"So that effect came from someone's quirk," one of the pros said. She was pretty. Ryuku, I think.
"We know for a fact that Hassaikai has something to do with this," Fat Gum continued. "They may not have distributed the drug, but they at very least made contact with one of the middle men."
Nighteye spoke up. "The leader of the Shie Hassaikai is a young man named Kai Chisaki. His quirk can completely break down materials. Now we have a bullet that can break down quirks. He has a young daughter named Eri. When Mirio and Midoriya came across Eri, she had bandages all over her arms."
"So what you're wondering," the problematic pro said, "is if this Chisaki is turning his daughter's body into bullets and selling them on the black market."
I covered my mouth. That poor girl.
"We're not certain he's selling the bullets," Nighteye corrected. "At this point, their efficacy seems to be questionable. This may just be the samples of a testing phase. But imagine the damage a completed drug could cause."
Nighteye was all for caution. He wanted a careful plan where all of the Hassaikai's safehouse were observed and taken down. Fat Gum wanted immediate action. I was with Fat Gum. Eri was probably hurting right now. She had to be saved. We couldn't wait.
In the end, we settled on the careful plan. The low-level heroes here would scout out all the different locations and determine where Eri was. Then, we'd all group together and rescue her.
All of us UA students sat together after the meeting while the pros ironed out specifics. Midoriya was a mess. He was blaming himself for this whole thing. Mirio was taking it pretty hard too.
---
Kirishima and I went home a little before everyone else. Fat Gum told us we were free to leave. They still had to talk to Midoriya and Mirio a little, and Uraraka and Tsu wanted to stay and try to comfort them. There was nothing we could really do to help though. So we left.
Kirishima stepped off the train first, then waited to see I made it off too. He walked quietly and more quickly than normal. His head was down. He was glaring at the ground. He was angry about something. We could just see UA's large main building rising above the trees, when he stopped. I stopped a little ways behind him.
"Dang it!" Kirishima kicked a rock. I could hear it skittering across the pavement. He glanced back at me and rubbed his neck. "Sorry," he said with a small smile. It dropped from his face a moment later as he stared at the ground.
"I just can't stand leaving that little girl to hurt, you know? Doesn't seem very heroic to know what's happening to her and then just go about our regular lives." He laughed a humorless laugh. "I mean, we're supposed to just go back to class now. Like we're pretending this never happened."
"We're not really pretending that. The pros are looking for her." Since when was that a relief? Since when did I defend the pros?
Kirishima kicked another rock. With less anger this time. "I still can't believe we're sitting around doing nothing while we know that someone's hurting."
I take a few steps forward. "We're going to find her, Kirishima. We'll save her."
Kirishima sighed, then looked up at me. There was a lot of fire in his eyes. A lot of determination. He nodded once.
He was so angry about not helping. I want to help too, but not as badly as he does. He's taken this personally. I want to be more like him. I watch Kirishima walk away. He's a better person than I am. In every way.
I want to be like him.
I want to be a pro.
