"Maaan, I was really looking forward to that trip!" Mina whined.
Denki nodded pitifully. "Tell us how it is, guys."
"Have fun."
"You never know," Midoriya tried to cheer up those who had failed, "maybe there will be a last-minute twist and you'll be able to go."
Mina almost started crying. "Don't give us hope."
"I'm not so sure I'll be able to go either," Sero said. "I was knocked out pretty much at the start. I don't think I did enough to pass."
"Me either," I said. "But my team didn't pass even without me so there's no way I'm going."
To be honest, I was a little relieved. Sure, I'd have to do miserable summer school, but at least I wouldn't have to sleep in a room with a bunch of people and live with everyone here for a week. Not that I didn't like them, just...
"Sit down, everyone." Mr. Aizawa entered the room. The class scrambled into their seats quickly as Aizawa took his place at the front of the class.
"Unfortunately, a few of you did not pass your exams." Mr. Aizawa's voice was just as dry and uninterested as ever. "So for your training camp in the woods...
Everyone is going."
Ahh, crud.
The others who had failed jumped up, huge smiles on their faces.
"Wait actually?" Kirishima shouted.
"We really get to go?" Mina asked.
"No one bombed the written exam," Mr. Aizawa said. "Two teams, including L/n, and then Sero."
Sero groaned, holding his face with his hands. "I knew it. Mineta made it to the gate but I didn't do near enough to pass."
"Let me explain," Mr. Aizawa said, his dead-looking eyes passed over the class. "For the practical battles, the teachers made sure to leave a way for each team to win." He chuckled to himself. "Otherwise, none of you would have stood a chance."
Aizawa arranged a few papers on his lecture. "We observed how you worked in a team to approach the task in front of you."
"Wait," Ojiro said in the front of the class. "Didn't you say the teacher wouldn't be holding back?"
"You all needed to be on edge. Besides, the training camp will focus on building your strength. Those who failed need that the most. None of you were ever going to stay here for summer school."
Perfect. A week-long summer camp with the class. That was going to be exhausting because of more than just the conditioning. I hung my head a little. No, no, this was good for me. I grit my teeth. This was going to be rough.
"We get to go camping!" Mina shouted excitedly.
I looked over at her. I smiled. It was hard to not be a little happy when she was so thrilled.
"Mr. Aizawa, you keep lying to us," Iida said suddenly. "Aren't you afraid we'll lose faith in you?"
"I'll think about it. We didn't lie to you about everything, though." Mr. Aizawa fixed Mina with a glare. "Failure is still failure."
The smile halted on Mina's face.
"Extra lessons have been prepared for the six of you. Frankly, they are much tougher than anything you would face in summer school."
All six of us groaned. This was gonna be a rough week.
The class mingled in the classroom after Aizawa had handed out little info pamphlets about the training camp at the end of the day.
