As we pulled into the driveway of the farm house, I saw Uncle Wills and Aunt Sarah's car parked in their normal spot and smiled. Good they were home.
Off to the side a few spots away sat the shiny silver Corvette, and my smile faltered slightly as earliers memories flashed through my head.
Turning to look at Hide, I found him already looking at me with that knowing look he always seemed to have.
"What?" I questioned as I unclicked the seatbelt.
He just shrugged and put the truck in park before reaching up and taking the black baseball cap off my head. I raised an eyebrow.
"Don't need to give them anymore reason to pick an argument with you." He said tossing the hat on his dash.
"Awe you're looking out for me. Thanks old man." I said punching his arm lightly.
"Always Laura." He replied back before opening his door and stepping out.
As I was about to reach for the handle of my door, it swung open. I hopped out of the truck and closed it behind me before looking towards the house and then down to the barn, catching sight of a familiar figure standing by the fence.
Ron came around the front following my gaze down to the fence and he grunted holding his hand out to me.
"Give me the papers, I'll go tell your guardians the good news. You go tell him. Should talk things through a little more too, without his hot head of a brother here." He said taking another step closer to me.
I smiled up at him and handed the papers over. "Thanks Ironhide, that would be great."
He let a genuine smile slip onto his face before it vanished. "If you need me give a shout. I'll hear it." He said waving his hand by his ear and then truck.
I gave him a fake salute while I walked backwards and away. He just scoffed and shook his head before making his way up the steps and into the house.
Once I turned back around I shoved my hands into my shorts pockets to keep from fidgeting as I was trying to figure out what to say. I guess I could just wing it. Can't get any worse then it did this morning right?
Oh how I was about to be so, so wrong.
I made sure my boots scuffed the gravel on the way down to the fence so he could hear me coming, not that I needed to I suppose as I'm pretty sure he already saw me in his altmode.
I came and stood beside him, leaning on the fence, but facing the other way. Looking over at him, I saw that he was deep in thought while staring out over the field and horses.
"Hey..." I said not taking my eyes off him.
A muscle in his jaw flexed and he looked down before clearing his throat and looking over at me. "I'm sorry."
"It's not your fault for what your brother did. For what Sunstreaker did." I said gently rubbing my arms where the marks were. "But I have some good news I wanted to share with you." I went on, trying to steer clear of any conversation about earlier.
Sideswipes eyes instantly glanced at my arms and he reached out grabbing them softly, examining the fingerprint bruises scattered about.
He brought my arms up to his lips, and kissed each of them gently. "I know, but this should've never happened. I thought he was doing better. I really did." He said as he lowered my arms carefully and reached a hand up to cup my jaw.
