Ron stepped out of his truck once it was parked in front of the Duttons house and came over to my side, opening the door with a soft click and offering me his hand.

I accepted it and gave him a small smile.

He had managed to calm me down relatively quick and even sat in his truck with me in silence for a while till I was good to go again. And that's honestly what I needed in the moment. Someone to just sit with me and be there.

He shut the door behind me before opening the back one and grabbing his black leather jacket out of it.

I looked at him confused before he held it out to me. My eyebrows pulled together now at the offer.

Sighing out he motioned down with his hand to my arms and I quickly looked.
There were small bruises forming where Sunstreaker was holding me.

Oh.

"Your asshole of a boyfriend needs to learn how to control that temper. If he puts his hands on you like that again, I'll be putting his ass on the ground." Ron said as he helped me into the jacket to cover them up.

I felt my heart sink. He was right. He did need to learn how to control it. I couldn't keep defending his actions if they started to hurt people and me.

"Might not even be my boyfriend after tonight." I mumbled out as I walked to the front door.

I mean how was I supposed to move on from that? He put his hands on me, just like my ex did. I shuddered at the thought and took a deep breath, coming to a stop at the front door.

Just as I was about to knock, the door opened and Kayce was standing there.

"Laura perfect timing, Johns in the office. You can go right in and see him." He said with a smile before looking over at Ron.

"Where's Sides?" Kayce asked giving me a sceptical look.

I scratched the back of my head as I walked by him.

"Uh, we got into a fight. Actually him, his brother and I got into a fight. I asked Ron to drive me here instead." I told him as I started to walk down the hall to the office that I've been to numerous times.

I paused just before the door and turned to see both men standing there awkwardly. I gave Hide a small smile and his eyes softened slightly.

"Go make friends Hide. I can't be your only one." I said letting out a small giggle.

He just grunted and shook his head before Kayce clapped him on the shoulder. "Come on man, I'll go show you around a bit. They shouldn't be too long if I know Laura."

I smiled as he lead him out the door and turned to walk into the office to see John sitting behind his desk with some paperwork spewed about on the top.

I gave a light knock on the door and he lifted his head up giving me a warm smile.

"Laura, come in have a seat." He said gesturing to the chair across him.

I nodded as I sat down. "Hey Mr. Dutton." I said as I took my seat.

"Oh please Laura I've known you for ages, John is just fine. I don't know why I have to keep telling you that." He said as he waved his hand.

I only nodded and adjusted Ron's jacket. "So you wanted to see me for something?" I asked hesitantly.

"Yes. You know I love you like a daughter, you're family here, always will be." He said standing up and grabbing some papers.

I smiled and nodded.

"And you know that I've sent each of my kids off to help the future of this ranch, to ensure nothing ever happens to it. To preserve it. Excluding Kayce of course, but you know that and he eventually found his way back because of you. I can't thank you enough for that by the way." John said as he stood in front of the office window and looked out over the ranch.
