They had dinner, cleaned up, and immediately started to Chiang Mai. It was late, so traffic was thin, and New was a smooth driver. Tay, who was in the back seat with his stomach full, fell asleep naturally, while Kao, who was forced to sit in the shotgun, and New, who insisted on driving to clear his mind, both felt chaotic and conflicted.
"Should we stop at a rest stop and grab some coffee?" Kao suggested after a long silence.
"Yes, let's do that," New agreed, and that was the only stop they madr before reaching Chiang Mai around dawn.
New and Kao were tired by the time they reached, while Tay felt refreshed from sleeping all the way.
"Why don't you rest for a while? I can check the stock for you if it arrives," Tay had been helping New with accounting of the bar, and had already understood how the business was being run.
"Ummm, No, Why don't you help Kao settle in? I will have to sign off on the delivery, so I gotta be there when the stock arrives anyway."
As Tay and New conversed, Kao looked blank on the couch.
"Hmmm, but aren't you tired? Can you go in like this?" Tay felt bad for New.
"Whose fault is it?" New mocked
"There it is. See, you become grumpy when you don't get enough sleep."
"Whatever." New then turned to Kao... "Make yourself at home, I will get someone to deliver breakfast."
Kao nodded sleepily, and New glared at Tay before closing the door.
But Tay followed New out.
"What is it?" New asked, annoyed.
Tay smiled and pecked New... "Come back as soon as you are done with the delivery. You should get some sleep before the bar opens for the night."
For some weird reason, New immediately felt light, his sleepy eyes brightened up a little.
"I will bring down some hot tea once Kao falls asleep, okay?"
New nodded with a smile and left for work, feeling better.
Tay saw Kao sleeping on the couch, still sitting upright. He stifled a laugh and tried to wake him up... "Kao, Baby, Why don't you lie down properly on the bed?"
Kao blinked his sleepy eyes and shook his head... "My clothes are dirty."
"It's fine, we can change the sheets later, let's head to bed, come on." Kao followed Tay groggily and plopped on the bed, unable to stop sleep from overtaking him anymore. Tay adjusted the AC to the right temperature and covered Kao with the blanket to keep him warm, and pecked his cheeks before leaving the room on his toes.
As promised, he found some tea and brewed it, and brought it downstairs to New, who fell asleep at the front desk waiting for the delivery.
New was a light sleeper, plus he was not comfortable, so he woke right up as soon as he heard Tay approaching him.
"Here," Tay passed the hot tea... "Why don't you lie down properly? I can wake you up when the stock arrives."
"Is Kao slepping?" New enquired
"Ya, He is knocked out."
"You sure you are going to be fine alone?"
Tay nodded... "Yes, ofcourse, just go and lie down"
New nodded and headed to the staff resting area, leaving the tea to Tay. But he couldn't sleep for long, the delivery arrived on time, and Tay had to wake up New to sign off and unload the stock. He helped New to check everything, and they were soon done with stocking up.
