Kao: Atleast unblock me, let me call you, baby please.
Just those four letters, the word Tay has been avoiding for months, a simple word but that meant enough to leave him with trauma, it was enough to take Tay right back few months. But before he could compose himself his phone lit again.
Kao: Baby, the only reason I didn't contact you was because I couldn't.
Tay didn't know if he has to sigh or roll his eyes at that.
Kao: Tay I really couldn't, I was in prison.
Tay's forhead knitted as soon as he read the message.
Kao: Please, Please, I am begging you, let me see you, or atleast let me hear your voice. You can't even begin to imagine how much I missed you.
Kao: Tay, it feels suffocating, give me a chance to breathe, will you? I am not sure how long I can hold on.
But Tay was not reading those messages anymore, his fingers stumbled on the screen as he unblocked Kao and dialed his number.
Kao answered before the 1st ring even ended..."Baby, Tay, Oh my god, Where are you?" Kao's voice was wet as if he had been crying.
Tay's legs couldn't hold on. He has to grip the counter to keep himself steady.
"Baby, I am at our place, Are you nearby? Can I come see you?"
"Wh.. What do you mean you were in prison?"
"Let me see you baby, I will explain everything"
"No!" Tay almost shouted... "I am only giving you a chance to explain because I would get closure. If you don't wanna talk on the phone, then let's end it here."
"Wait, wait, Okay, " Tay could almost hear Kao's tears, it was pretty clear how desperate Kao was... "That day, when I told you I was going out with friends for drinks we went to a new bar, We just wanted to explore it, As we drank, we started playing games, and when it was my turn, I was dared to ask you for a break up. I just couldn't avoid Baby, I swear I was going to call you right back and explain, run to you and apologise. Spend the night in your arms and whisper sweet nothings in your ear at dawn." Kao's voice broke, and Tay broke with him, he fell on his knees as his tears flowed out.
"Why didn't you then?" Tay's question was a whisper.
"I couldn't Tay" Kao's cries were heartbreaking... "God, it's so good to hear your voice after so long." Kao gulped... "That was the day my luck left me stranded, police came to ride the bar that instant, and I only realised what was going on when I found myself proving my identity at the police station. They arrested me, accusing me of drug dealing and I was allowed only one call. I knew I should call you, I knew you would be mad, But being mad is better than sad, right. I was innocent so I would be acquited in no time there was no need to involve you in it and make you stress, I could just come home in a few hours and soothe you. You are mine after all, you would understand. That is what I thought baby, So instead of you I called my father to ask for help."
Kao contined after a pause... "But you know how bad my luck was baby? They found a drug packet in my jacket, someone slipped it while escaping. I, who never even knew how much a packed of that shit cost, was accused and arrested with all those drug dealers and was kept confined, away from the society, away from you"
Tay was sitting on the floor, in a mess of his own tears, shivering, his phone clutched to his ear, when freshened New came to find him in the kitchen. The state of Tay made New panic too, he held Tay's shoulder soothing them.... "Tay, what's wrong?" He asked anxiously.
Without looking up at New, Tay showed the caller Id on his phone and switched the speaker on. Kao was still explaining... "But I didn't give up. I knew you would still be waiting for me. When I got to see my lawyer, the first thing I asked him to do was contact you and explain everything. But he said he couldn't reach you. Later, I even sent my friends who came to visit me in the prison to find you and let you know where I was. They said they couldn't find you at home or catch you at your office. Tay, baby, in that dark prison, only your memories kept me warm. I could only fight because of my desire to return to you. I missed you with my every single heartbeat, Tay. I wrote you so many letters," there was paper rustling on Kao's side.... "But I see that you never got them, they are all here at our doorstep, unopened."
